Enough with the fucking quibbling about LCD SOUNDSYSTEM'S placement on the P2K list, OK? Fuck.

young depardieu looming out of void in hour of profound triumph (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 22 August 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)

whatever, just not losing my edge. really i think we can all agree that that is just silly.

samosa gibreel, Sunday, 23 August 2009 00:32 (sixteen years ago)

I don't understand all this hatred for "Losing My Edge". The way that drum fill sometimes just happens. In 2002 DJs used it to get from Erase Errata into "Deceptacon". Remember? No?

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Sunday, 23 August 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

only 1 i wouldnt vote is daft punk is playing at my house

johnny crunch, Sunday, 23 August 2009 23:00 (sixteen years ago)

"Losing My Edge" is great, but nowhere near the same league as the Sound of Silver material.

Parenthetical Grillz, Monday, 24 August 2009 01:49 (sixteen years ago)

real tempted to vote someone great.

call all destroyer, Monday, 24 August 2009 01:51 (sixteen years ago)

yeah (pretentious mix) for not having vocals

winston, Monday, 24 August 2009 04:45 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think losing my edge is a bad song, but it is clearly at least four spots away from being a contender for the best song on this list.

samosa gibreel, Monday, 24 August 2009 04:54 (sixteen years ago)

someone great

"Yeah" (all versions considered)

^^both of these are still mindblowing imo - "all my friends" is also a 10/10 classic - think the other ones are overrated in the lcd canon and "daft punk is playing at my house" is actively irritating at this point

can i ox (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 August 2009 05:02 (sixteen years ago)

yeah 'daft punk' is pretty awful imo -- only remembered because of the title, kind of abrasive track

butthurt (deej), Monday, 24 August 2009 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

"daft punk is playing at my house" is actively irritating at this point

yeah (crass version). it's pretty hard to top that squelchy synth part at the end

psychgawsple, Monday, 24 August 2009 05:26 (sixteen years ago)

Someone Great > Yeah > Losing my Edge > All my friends > Daft Punk is Playing at my House

J4mi3 H4rl3y (Snowballing), Monday, 24 August 2009 05:52 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ yeah i guess i mostly agree with that ... would put beat connection either before or after 'yeah'

butthurt (deej), Monday, 24 August 2009 06:17 (sixteen years ago)

actually i might like 'all my friends' more than 'losing my edge'

butthurt (deej), Monday, 24 August 2009 06:19 (sixteen years ago)

i had no idea everyone hated "Daft Punk" now

patti lmaonnaise (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 24 August 2009 06:19 (sixteen years ago)

you don't think that riff is grating?

can i ox (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 August 2009 06:22 (sixteen years ago)

Someone Great sans Murphy on 45:33 > Yeah > Beat Connection > Someone Great > Tribulations (Lindstrom Remix)> All My Friends > Tribulations > Daft Punk = North American Scum

Tim F, Monday, 24 August 2009 08:38 (sixteen years ago)

Tribulations (Lindstrom Remix)

Never heard this. Going to LOLslsk right now.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 August 2009 08:42 (sixteen years ago)

YEAH

vain_bowers, Monday, 24 August 2009 10:31 (sixteen years ago)

I'd forgotten all about that Lindstrom remix but i loved it when it came out. The vocal breakdown bit is fantastic.

Number None, Monday, 24 August 2009 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

"All My Friends" just sounds to me like U2 covering Joy Division.

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Monday, 24 August 2009 13:35 (sixteen years ago)

cool

fleetwood (max), Monday, 24 August 2009 13:37 (sixteen years ago)

Only one of these actually made me stop in a record store and purchase the album it was on, so I'm voting for it; "Someone Great".

nate dogg is a feeling (HI DERE), Monday, 24 August 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

It's either "Yeah" or "Someone Great" although I think I like "New York..." more than either. "All My Friends" is shocking. Overall, LCDS is a band whose continual lionising frustrates me intensely, because there is nothing truly eye-opening for me anywhere in their catalogue, and yet they are seen as nigh-on leaders of the pack.

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Monday, 24 August 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

"daft punk is playing at my house" is actively irritating at this point

otm, same with "North American Scum"

ha, those are my two favorite lcd singles. i guess i like them when they're irritating.

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Monday, 24 August 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

"NAS" is great. "Daft Punk..." is not.

nate dogg is a feeling (HI DERE), Monday, 24 August 2009 13:49 (sixteen years ago)

Nas is a great rapper but Daft Punk makes better beats.

Tuomas, Monday, 24 August 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)

I wish Nas was "NAS"

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Monday, 24 August 2009 13:58 (sixteen years ago)

"daft punk," echt or echh? i think it sort of summarizes everything lcds does -- krautfunk groove, mock self-mythology, a hipster "party anthem" that transcends its scare quotes.

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah (stupid mix) > Beat Connection > Losing My Edge > Someone Great > 45:33 > Yr City's A Sucker > Yeah (pretentious mix) > Tribulations (Lindstrom Remix) > All My Friends > North American Scum > NY I Love You > other album songs > Daft Punk

"Sound of Silver."

post-contrarian meta-challop 2009 (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:23 (sixteen years ago)

For a while I made my own EP out of "Get Innocuous!", "North American Scum", "Someone Great", "Us vs Them" and "Sound of Silver" and then played it nonstop for about 5 months.

nate dogg is a feeling (HI DERE), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

cuz you're North American.

post-contrarian meta-challop 2009 (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 August 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

Anyone catch that Marilyn Manson song on the new record that sounds like "North American Scum"? I DJ this shit out...

Check out "We're From America"

da croupier, Monday, 24 August 2009 14:51 (sixteen years ago)

nothing truly eye-opening for me anywhere in their catalogue

what do you reckon to 45:33 and the Lindstrom Tribulations, LJ?

miss pamela and the gtfo's (sic), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

'daft punk is playing at my house' backlash seems pretty appropriate time-wise (these type of songs hit their nadir 5 years after they come out, no?)

I wouldn't be surprised if the song dates pretty well tho

iatee, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 02:20 (sixteen years ago)

this isnt a 'backlash' -- i never liked it & its actively abrasive, while their other stuff isnt. & that isnt backed up by 'north american scum' being ranked around there by ppl either, since that came out w/ sound of silver

butthurt (deej), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

okay, I believe that you actually dislike it. I don't believe that ILM as a whole always disliked it - and that's what one would garner from reading this thread.

iatee, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 02:26 (sixteen years ago)

haha I should look back in the archives to see if I did actually make any of the incredulous "wtf are you ppl hearing in this bullshit" posts that swirled around my head when "Daft Punk..." came out

I have a set of penises leftover from some bach party somewhere (HI DERE), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 03:30 (sixteen years ago)

i can understand people not liking "daft punk is playing," but i have more trouble understanding people liking lcd soundsystem and not liking that song, which seems so much exactly what they do. but i guess taste etc. (if i was gonna call anything on this list actively abrasive, it'd be "yeah" in any of its incarnations. but i like that one too.)

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

my love for 'losing my edge' is really bound up in its social context for me - it was such a huge club anthem back then. it's one of those key formative songs for a good proportion of my friends. i don't think i'd expect anyone coming to it new to get it.

crass version of 'yeah' for me (tho) tim is right about the lindstrøm mix of 'tribulations' - that's just HUGE. when it stops and the world spins on its axis a bit and then the 'i feel love' bassline comes in <3

lex pretend, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 08:55 (sixteen years ago)

^ HUGE club anthem. It was a total hit single, a gift to DJs. I heard that song every night that entire summer.

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 12:49 (sixteen years ago)

i can understand people not liking "daft punk is playing," but i have more trouble understanding people liking lcd soundsystem and not liking that song, which seems so much exactly what they do.

I like them more when they do things like "Get Innocuous!" and "Something Great"; the only track of theirs in the "Daft Punk..." vein I really am gaga over is "North American Scum" ("Tribulations" leans harder into synth-burble territory than rock-dance-with-yelping territory for me).

I have a set of penises leftover from some bach party somewhere (HI DERE), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 13:04 (sixteen years ago)

ok, i can see that. i'd never quite as clearly divided their catalog that way, but it makes sense. i guess i just like the yelping more. i like "get innocuous" and "something great" and "all my friends" and all, but to me that's always been the second tier of their stuff.

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 13:35 (sixteen years ago)

("someone great," i mean)

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 13:37 (sixteen years ago)

ha well this is where I contradict myself because I really hate "All My Friends" and its bargain-basement New Order pasticheness

I have a set of penises leftover from some bach party somewhere (HI DERE), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 13:37 (sixteen years ago)

I love "All My Friends" and "Someone Great", but "Yeah" (Crass Version) is the one that really hits me. I'm not much into the lyrics, but the way the synth melody transforms from an off-beat pulse into something that sounds completely disorienting/hysterical is astonishing, and the drum solo at the end is completely over the top.

"north american scum"

mod indecent (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 26 August 2009 05:02 (sixteen years ago)

I voted "Edge" in this poll because I love it a lot, but "Get Innocuous!" really is my favorite thing he's ever done.

if I don't see more dissent, I'm going to have to check myself in (Matos W.K.), Wednesday, 26 August 2009 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

"Yeah (Crass Version)" provided me with both my most transcendent concert experience (going apeshit at Randall's Island) and the only fun I've ever had on ecstasy (dancing like a fucking maniac by myself in my friend's mostly empty living room). It's also my favorite LCD song. So I vote for it.
