Icons, Abstract Thee is an EP from indie pop band Of Montreal. It was released January 23, 2007, along with the album Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? and the promo CD single "Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse". It is a collection of songs from recent singles, bonus tracks from the vinyl edition of Hissing Fauna, and a song that was put up on the band's MySpace page. It can be seen as a bridge between the song "The Past Is a Grotesque Animal" and "Bunny Ain't No Kind of Rider" from Hissing Fauna.

"miss blondie" is devastating and great, but "no conclusion" can't be fucked w/

"Voltaic Crusher/Undrum to Muted Da" is one of their very best.

billstevejim, Thursday, 27 August 2009 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

"No Conclusion" is my favorite Of Montreal song. Period.

myndbloom, Thursday, 27 August 2009 01:55 (sixteen years ago)

I have been listening to it on repeat this evening and shit it's magnificent. If I do a '20 best progressive tracks of the decade' poll then it'll be there...

voting for "Voltaic Crusher/Undrum to Muted Da" at only two minutes, though there is no denying the brillance of "No Conclusion."

really love the moment in whichever song when he goes 'and please please please god don't be a bastard, christ knows she deserves something nice for a change', the song has so much momentum at that point.

not voting for it tho, no conclusion is just so much more.

ianmaxwell, Sunday, 30 August 2009 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

might vote for "miss blonde your papa is failing" actually

tay zondven (k3vin k.), Sunday, 30 August 2009 03:16 (sixteen years ago)

it's by far the starkest, rawest lyrical thing he's ever done. any ambiguity found in "hissing fauna" is brutally trampled by the bluntness of this ep. it's also really good; "miss blonde" is too too sad, and ianmaxwell is otm about "please please please" etc. still, "no conclusion" is the best one even if it does mean waiting out a very long track for that incredible string-laden coda "it's hopeless... hopeless".

the next grozart, Sunday, 30 August 2009 08:57 (sixteen years ago)

yeah the "it's hopeless" part is worth the wait, i just didnt remember it being SO long

has anyone heard "if he's protecting our nation, then who will protect big oil, our children"? never heard of this before, but spotify has it chronologically between "hissing fauna" and "skeletal lamping", which...

The first 2 songs on this are the best.

billstevejim, Sunday, 24 November 2013 01:46 (twelve years ago)

If he's protecting... Is a comp of early stuff iirc
