OG geddy helium vox definitely help here as the vocals still sounds a *bit* more normal than they would if you did it to another 70s hard rock band
― Thought you were regal/Now who needs "Boston Legal"? (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 31 August 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)
the end rave up is priceless
Wow, sounds like Pentagram with Jimi Hendrix on vocals.
― Thijs, Monday, 31 August 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)
Doug Pinnick, actually
― Thijs, Monday, 31 August 2009 16:56 (sixteen years ago)
haha this is great!
― Dominique, Monday, 31 August 2009 16:56 (sixteen years ago)
yes!
― tylerw, Monday, 31 August 2009 17:00 (sixteen years ago)
what's funny is how tight the drums still are...and that's not even neil peart!
― Dominique, Monday, 31 August 2009 17:00 (sixteen years ago)
Now I wanna go slow down another 10 Rush songs just to see what happens.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 31 August 2009 17:00 (sixteen years ago)
That sounded surprisingly natural.
― WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 31 August 2009 17:21 (sixteen years ago)
Sounds like Killdozer! Someone do this with By-Tor & The Snow Dog now pls
― Matt #2, Monday, 31 August 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)
wow this really sounds like a real doom band!
― crappy, use her name (latebloomer), Monday, 31 August 2009 18:07 (sixteen years ago)

― They are known for contracting the ugliest players, like Kuyt (country matters), Monday, 31 August 2009 18:28 (sixteen years ago)
sounds like the "we have assumed control" guy from 2112 on lead vox!
― henry s, Monday, 31 August 2009 18:30 (sixteen years ago)
Off topic, but similar idea. I sped "Mother" up to sound like a Misfits song rather than a Danzig song, but kept the pitch the same.
http://boxstr.com/files/5954304_q2djr/danzig%20-%20mother%20%28fast%29.mp3
(Slowed some Rush down with altering the pitch too, and "Closer to the Heart" sounded cool as a slow jam.)
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 31 August 2009 18:31 (sixteen years ago)
Love this! Nice job w/Danzig there, too - love the cardboard box drums in the chorus.
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 31 August 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)
Both of these are ridiculously great.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 31 August 2009 19:29 (sixteen years ago)
Some more hijacking: Van Halen's "I'll Wait" sped up sounds a lot like Devo.

And now we have a cover for that:

― cool app (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 31 August 2009 22:00 (sixteen years ago)
I cannot stop listening to this! I could go for a whole greatest hits done this way.
― WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 31 August 2009 22:25 (sixteen years ago)
do doom bands actually sound this good? what should I listen to, or should I just stop typing in this box and search other threads for recs?
― cool app (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 31 August 2009 22:27 (sixteen years ago)
rip john rutsey
― mookieproof, Monday, 31 August 2009 22:30 (sixteen years ago)
I've done this with Coltrane stuff before. Actually makes me appreciate some of the more out there stuff more.
― ecuador_with_a_c, Monday, 31 August 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, rush o))) sounds awesome!
I did a whole CD of stuff like this except with old hardcore tunes. I think I gave a copy to ned 3 years ago?
― 鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 31 August 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)
oddly enough it is on the cusp of getting a digital release, is this the year slow jamz broke?
― 鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 31 August 2009 23:49 (sixteen years ago)
OMG
― Sundar, Monday, 31 August 2009 23:52 (sixteen years ago)
I have a 45rpm 12" of Number of the Beast that sounds crushing on 33rpm. Bruce sounds like a man on that. I think the key here is to slow down bands with really high pitched singers.
― Nate Carson, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 01:56 (sixteen years ago)
I played the Butthole Surfers PCPPEP at 33 for a good long while before I realized it was supposed to be on 45. Hadn't heard anything else by them at that point so had no idea it was wrong. It sounds heavy and evil as fuck.
Still do it every once in a while just for the memories.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 02:07 (sixteen years ago)
i put this on the ipod today. Driving around playing on shuffle, it comes up. The next song is "Big Church" from Monoliths and Dimensions, and I haven't stopped grinning since :)
― Dominique, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 02:56 (sixteen years ago)
A friend used to listen to a 45 of Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog" on 33 when he was a kid and was heartbroken when he first heard it on the radio at normal speed.

I did this too with my wife's copy, pretty terrifying.
― Cave17Matt, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 03:09 (sixteen years ago)
My girlfriend, a former WCBN dj, swears that the 12" of Holiday by Madonna sounds like Violator-era Depeche Mode when played at 33.
― James Blood Ulver (I eat cannibals), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 04:53 (sixteen years ago)
I accidentally played a whole side of Alice Coltrane's Universal Consciousness on 45... sounded great-- extra celestial.
― WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 04:57 (sixteen years ago)
the Rush is really nice! how long til a band now covers it at that tempo? I know I would
― Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 05:07 (sixteen years ago)
xpost - Matt you married well.

Wow thanks for sharing that. Looks like I'll be purchasing a copy of Loud N Proud very soon.
― Nate Carson, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 01:19 (sixteen years ago)
whoa. could the rest of the nazareth album be anything like that at all?
― original bgm, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 01:23 (sixteen years ago)
That is awesome! Definitely never heard that before. Thanks!
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 01:41 (sixteen years ago)
This sounds pretty killer.
On the flip side, Aerosmith's "Nobody's Fault" is a killer thrash metal song if you play the LP at 45.
Give it a shot.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 01:59 (sixteen years ago)
Mother sounds killer sped up too.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 02:03 (sixteen years ago)
It's like AC/DC with some Minutemen rhythms.
Ha!
― earlnash, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 02:04 (sixteen years ago)
the rest of that Nazareth album is not in the same vein as "Hollis Brown"...it's good, just not the same...
― henry s, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 02:08 (sixteen years ago)
I've made a thrash edit of Nobody's Fault if someone has a place to post it up.

This should work if you want to check it out.
I got it up to 45 speed then worked on tuning it back down and got it a bit further down than the original track, but I kind of liked it this way.

This guy Mr. Wonka (a friend of Rammellzee) screwed and chopped all sorts of metal and classic rock from Mountain to Mastodon five years ago (at least three CD-Rs worth); I wrote about it here (scroll down):

― 鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 28 September 2009 14:00 (sixteen years ago)
i still haven't listened to this but the excitement over it is weird to me -- "Working Man" is a transparent Zep rip and a lot of contemporary sludgy metal bands are just slowed down Zep, this can't be a revelation to anyone can it?

I've never liked Rush much, but hearing Geddy pitched down out of the dogwhistle range, I'm amazed by how much I like his phrasing.
