definitely that In The Fishtank with the Insane Clwon Posse and The Ex

andrew m., Tuesday, 1 September 2009 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

woah you're the first person to ever make that joke

Food Fighters - The Cruller and the Crêpe (some dude), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 15:56 (fifteen years ago)

I'm ignoring the compilations because, well seems like cheating or something.

Sonic Youth EP or Kill Yr Idols EP or The Walls Have Ears, probably the 1st one.

Hold That Tiger. Monstrous. Better than "Sister"!

tylerw, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

live tracks on the Dirty Boots CD EP, yo

Fox Force Five Punchline (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

I'm voting for Sonic Death because it's, for my money, the best pre-Shelley release and the most essential live recording.

Food Fighters - The Cruller and the Crêpe (some dude), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

I thought about making an exception to the CD single cutoff for Dirty Boots, some great tracks on there. Let's designate that write-in #1.

Food Fighters - The Cruller and the Crêpe (some dude), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

gila monster jamboree tape

grey davies (city worker), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:04 (fifteen years ago)

*⁂((✪⥎✪))⁂* (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

haha love that story

Food Fighters - The Cruller and the Crêpe (some dude), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

So I think this has to be a live album (even though almost all this stuff is stellar:

The Walls Have Ears >>> Live At The Continental Club >>> Hold That Tiger >>> Sonic Death Live

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:06 (fifteen years ago)

what DO you do if you're mom is a skinhead?

Fox Force Five Punchline (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:13 (fifteen years ago)

Kill Yr idols. World shaking sounds, classic package, a perfect moment.

Soukesian, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

Gila Monster Jamboree. End of an era.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:17 (fifteen years ago)

yeah Kill Yr Idols is probably my favorite studio release pre-Evol, really intense little record

Food Fighters - The Cruller and the Crêpe (some dude), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:18 (fifteen years ago)

I voted Master Dik because it used to crack me up. Even with the "not as good as Atomizer, so don't get your hopes up" sticker

dan selzer, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

"4 Tunna Brix EP "

best Fall covers ever probably

Zeno, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

yah Master-Dik is hilarious, possibly best Thurston tomfoolery ever put on record

some dude, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:24 (fifteen years ago)

shit is funky fresh y'know

Fox Force Five Punchline (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

Sonic Youth EP, which is hugely underrated. I remember being very disappointed when I bought the SST vinyl version back in the 80's. I was wrong. Represents the road not taken that might have improved their career (in terms of quality, if not sales). "I Don't Want To Push It" doesn't get enough love.

dlp9001, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:37 (fifteen years ago)

Found new love for the Sonic Youth EP recently too, so I'll go with that

andrew m., Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:47 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah it's definitely an interesting/underrated chapter for the band. Makes me wonder, if they'd done a full LP with that lineup/sound/production how it would've rated among their albums.

some dude, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago)

remind me the shakey mo story. he the one who yells "fuck her!"?

andrew m., Tuesday, 1 September 2009 16:54 (fifteen years ago)

been tempted lately to start a 'most obnoxious sonic youth moment' poll but i think mb i'd have to do a nominations thread first and just zzz

thomp, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

eh, you can always use this as a nominations thread...I was going to use this space for nominations of the first of the SY side projects polls (think i'll do Thurston's first).

some dude, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

In the fishtank is sweet, probably the least SY-sounding thing on here but that can also be a good thing. gets my vote.

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 20:34 (fifteen years ago)

silver session imo.

ian, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 22:45 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 14 September 2009 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

"I Don't Want To Push It" doesn't get enough love. OTM!

Jacob Sanders, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 05:14 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Nice to see Master Dik floating to the top of the fish tank.

Soukesian, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

remind me the shakey mo story. he the one who yells "fuck her!"?

my first show! Mudhoney was great. Gumball not so much.

Hat Trick Swayze (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

surprised Silver Session didn't do better

Alex, Lord Autogoon (some dude), Wednesday, 16 September 2009 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

We should poll this again.

Marten Broadcloak, mild-mannered GOP congressman (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 11 April 2024 18:36 (one year ago)

I’d be Silver Sessions or write-in for infamous Dirty Boots live EP

assert (matttkkkk), Friday, 12 April 2024 00:18 (one year ago)

lol “What do you do when your mom’s a skinhead?”

Cow_Art, Friday, 12 April 2024 00:46 (one year ago)

Gila Monster Jamboree, though much love for the Destroyed Room (25 minute Diamond Sea iirc), Walls Have Ears, Live At The Continental, Kill Yr Idols and Kali Yug

( just feel like more people should’ve voted, and of course, feelings may have changed. I don’t think I voted in this, might not have been aware.)

Marten Broadcloak, mild-mannered GOP congressman (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 12 April 2024 13:22 (one year ago)

Silver Session or The Destroyed Room for me

Marten Broadcloak, mild-mannered GOP congressman (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 12 April 2024 13:22 (one year ago)

The SYR series would make a nice poll. I remember the "Goo Demos" cd was released around the same time as "Experimental Jet Set..." and got better press than "Experimental ...".

EvR, Friday, 12 April 2024 20:00 (one year ago)

Kill Yr Idols or Walls Have Ears.

stirmonster, Friday, 12 April 2024 20:12 (one year ago)

We should poll this again.

― Marten Broadcloak, mild-mannered GOP congressman (Raymond Cummings)

I agree, is there anything that could be added? In/Out/In? The three Rarities comps on Bandcamp?

I painted my teeth (sleeve), Friday, 12 April 2024 20:15 (one year ago)

OK SYRs were already polled, didn't know that. Was From The Basement ever released officially?

EvR, Friday, 12 April 2024 20:54 (one year ago)

Dirty Boots EP is now Live in Irvine 1990

Xgau Murder Spa (nikola), Friday, 12 April 2024 21:28 (one year ago)

And even better for it

I remember the "Goo Demos" cd was released around the same time as "Experimental Jet Set..." and got better press than "Experimental ...".

Experimental is the most underrated SY LP IMO
