Can anyone out there tell me exactly what was the nature of Michelin UK's suit against Momus? Was it libel? Defamation?

The original "Hippopotamomus" cover used an image strongly based on the Michelin 'tyre-man"

That's it.

So would that be copyright infringement?

mottdeterre, Wednesday, 2 September 2009 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

Still have a soft spot for this album. Soon after, Creation dropped Momus and signed Oasis. What were they thinking???

That Liam and Noel were better moneymakers.

Ah, but Oasis are no more, whereas Momus is still taking the world by storm with his latest vaudevillian breakcore album.

He has been sued by Michelin UK, for the song "Michelin Man", which compared the mascot to a blow-up doll, on Hippopotamomus (1991).

He made a reference to the fact that the Michelin man was born a woman.

How about that one?

Pretty shameful, ripping off a young girl's uninteresting art project. Actually, she's the shameful one. Like that's creative at all.
