i believe the seeds of formation for The Halo Benders was the 1991 beat happening tour with the treepeople opening up. i think the backing band on halo benders first record was the early built to spill line-up (ca. ultimate alternative wavers) with steve fisk engineering and doing tapes.

hee hee, yeah that's classic. i haven't listened to the halo benders in forever -- that first one is probably worth digging out.

i don't know if it's true (seems unlikely) but i've heard that calvin is banned from athens for interfering w/ emts who were helping some guy that had a seizure at a dub narcotic soundsystem show.

he remains to be the biggest dbag/asshole i've ever encountered in my life! i had to spend an afternoon with him when my bro was touring with him (he tagged along). he had an opinion about everything and inserted himself into each and every conversation without any hesitation. it was like being on ilx but IRL, the worst.

Then I guess I was lucky. Whenever I met him at parties and gigs in DC (he had relatives here plus was pals with Dischord folks) way back when he just asked me questions about DC go-go records.
