His last great full-album hurrah was probably Midinite Vultures in 1999, but he's still been on his game at points throughout the last ten years. Which album you like?

Sea Change, even though I don't think there are too many on ILM that share my love for that album. Guero probably a very close second with The Information not terribly far behind. That last one though? Stunk up the place.

I liked Sea Change a lot more at the time than I do now, it seems. Melancholy Beck has a shelf life, I guess. Guero probably takes it for me... best combo of weirdness and pop sense without going completely over the edge (which is where The Information goes). Modern Guilt isn't all bad, but it definitely drags in spots.

sea change by a mile as far as that lot goes. in fact 'lonesome tears' is up there with my very favourite beck tunes.

Sea Change v. The Information for me. Sea Change is a more solid album, but I love a handful of songs on The Information, especially the woozy, piano-driven, 70s West-Coast rock-sounding Strange Apparition.

I love Guero to death.

Guero. Put off Sea Change by his acting like a monumental prick when I interviewed him at the time - it strikes me as a pastiche of a heartbreak record rather than the real thing, albeit with some extraordinarily gorgeous arrangements. I suspect I might be the only person in the world other than Beck or Danger Mouse who loved Modern Guilt.

Nah, my friend Charles likes Modern Guilt a lot too. I'm not wild about it, but I do really like a few of the songs.

i can't even remembering listening to the Information (which i probably did anyway)

Guero was sorta fun.

Sea Change was my favorite Beck album for years, one of those albums that comes out right when you're looking for something that sounds exactly like it—the creation and fulfillment of a desire at the same moment. The same thing happened with Kid A for me. Now that I've had a few years to get out of that head space, it's not nearly as genius as I thought it was then, but it's still by far my favorite Millennial Beck.
