Apparently, Bristol Rovers fans sing Goodnight Irene. Not sure if their version is any good.

Half Man Half Biscuit did a version on a Peel session.

There's an excellent book called "The Music master Tracks catalogue" which comes out about once every 2 years. If you need details on where to get it please get in touch but apart from the artists already listed it mentions the following as having recorded the track at one time or another.(If you need any help with the albums these recordings are on, once again, get in touch and I'll do what I can to help)

Gene Autry, Bobby Bare, Tony Capstick, Johnny Cash, The Clydesiders, Nat King Cole, Ry Cooder, Bing Crosby/Bob Hope(duet) Accordion Diamond(?), Lonnie Donnigan, The Five Smith Brothers, Foster and Allan, Paul and Annie Gayten, Jimi Hendrix, Gordon Jenkins, Huddie Ledbetter, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Jim Reeves, Tony Savage, Michelle Shocked, The Spinners, Brian Wilson.

There's an interesting version of it on the new Bryan Ferry album Frantic.

Pete Townshend covered that song quite beautifully on the otherwise wretched live video for that Psychoderelict thing.

I haven't checked AMG, but the only version I have that hasn't been mentioned is by the mighty Joseph Spence.

I have sung this loudly myself many times, which I mention by way of confirming that it is the big Bristol Rovers theme song. I don't know why.

four weeks pass...
For an excellent version, check out Kelly Joe Phelps on his album "Shine Eyed Mister Zen." One of the best.

"I have sung this loudly myself many times, which I mention by way of confirming that it is the big Bristol Rovers theme song."

i too have sung this many times, in increasing despair. another cover version was done by 20,000 Bristol City fans who sang it at us as we got relegated from the first division what seems a million years ago now.

HMHB's version was inspired by their hearing it when Bristol Rovers played (their beloved) Tranmere Rovers...
