Liking a song for a crap reason

Do you ever like a song for one reason? A good bass riff, or maybe one good lyric line? As in, it's a pretty crap song, but something stupid and trivial attracts you to it. Why does this happen? Do you like it subconsciously or what?

I sometimes pretend to like a pop song so I can identify with the rest of my peers. Feel united. Buying rock and pop records to feel a unique human being even though I fully realize I am a victim of the capitalist machine.

The last song would have been "When it rains, it pours."

Define "crap reason", though. "A good bass riff" is a GREAT reason to like a song, imo. One fantastic lyric line can make me love a song too. I don't think those are crap reasons at all.

I like Whitesnake's "Is It Love" because it reminds me of when I copped a feel of somebody I totally lusted after back in school. There you go! Utterly crap song and even worse reason!

Sorry, I lie. Now I remember all I got was a slap and the song IS complete garbage. I dunno, the question 'are any reasons crap reasons?' is a good one

yea, i don't really think theres such thing as 'a crap reason', well, unless you reckon all reasons are crap - which they might be i suppose

i guess theres plenty of songs that remind me of people and places, and i might not like them otherwise, but people and places aren't crap reasons, they're great reasons

i suppose there are songs which have a good element within them, but the rest of the songs is rubbish. i can't think of any offhand though. i think theres a few where i like everything except the chorus. i don't like it when choruses resolve, or when they repeat it, but in like, one key up - you know like in that eternal song, cant remember the name but you know the one i mean, the one with the wyans guy or whatever.

oh, i know, lucky by britney. i like that song, but the chorus resolves stupidly and thats annoying, although i suppose thats one bad part to a good song, rather than a good part in a bad song

it begs the question whether or not you can really hate a song - im indifferent to so much but i dont think i hate anything - even those novelty records, or christina (hmm forgot about celine d for a minute)

anyway i like boston's more than a feeling, and some of those songs that are supposed to be good to drive to - your the voice by john farnham, is this love by whitesnake - stuff by heart. but i dont know why i like the power ballad, moving i guess in a real terrible way

Baker Street : Gerry Rafferty ... stupid song, but that classic sax riff ...

Normally when there's a crap song with one good bit, somebody samples the good bit and uses it a better context. This is why music is getting better all the time. Bad "parts" of songs are getting filtered out, while the classic riffs thrive and reproduce.

The chorus to "Is This Love?" wins me every time.

I always liked that ominous piano intro to "Old Time Rock And Roll." It's too bad the rest of the song doesn't remotely live up to it.

There's that Mariah Carey song that loops a wonderful sample from "Genius of Love" by Tom Tom Club, and it makes me think "I wish I thought of that." I recently heard a song that loops a sample of the cheesy haunting piano part from some soap opera theme song (Guiding Light perhaps?) - it works surprisingly well, but I'm afraid I don't remember any other aspects of the song.

The Mariah Carey song is "Fantasy" and is one of the few nu-Mariah tracks I can stomach. The soap opera theme is from Young And The Restless and is used on Mary J Blige's "No More Drama".
