Inspired by seeing them (Nile Rodgers and Chic, more accurately) last week. They were wonderful.

I'll vote for "My Feet Keep Dancing," which should have been as huge a hit as "Good Times."

HOW CAN I CHOOSE? Maybe 'My Forbidden Lover' because nobody else has picked that yet.

One, two, awwwww FREAK OUT

if I don't see more dissent, I'm going to have to check myself in (Matos W.K.), Thursday, 10 September 2009 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

Voted "Everybody Dance," now sort of wishing I'd voted "Dance, Dance, Dance."

Hm, my old cassette copy of Les Plus Grands has "Chic Cheer" instead of "My Forbidden Lover". Was that a mistake or is there a different edition? (A sensible substitution, since "My Forbidden Lover" was a minor hit and "Chic Cheer" wasn't even a single.)

Any other legitimate full-length "Greatest Hits" albums out there with a mere seven songs? None with that I can think of right now, which is some kind of minor achievement.

There does seem to be two versions alright - I went with the one I know.

sonofstan, Thursday, 10 September 2009 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

"I Want Your Love" is my favourite song ever but I like the 12" version with the extended strings/brass section best. The "how really bad your love I neeeeeeed" harmony that leads into it is fucking mind blowing.

Todd Terje does a pretty good edit of it.

amarillo fat (jim), Thursday, 10 September 2009 17:05 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah that thing is a godsend.

Eugene Sander-Rygar (MPx4A), Thursday, 10 September 2009 17:07 (sixteen years ago)

favourite bit in it, the bassline when it goes "badada bum bum, badada bam bam".

amarillo fat (jim), Thursday, 10 September 2009 17:13 (sixteen years ago)

that's just in i want your love in general, not just the edit.

amarillo fat (jim), Thursday, 10 September 2009 17:14 (sixteen years ago)

'I want your love in general'

lol

sonofstan, Thursday, 10 September 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

Another fun fact that never occurred to me until now: All five of their Top 40 (USA) singles were shortened radio edits. Only room for two of those five full-lengths on Les Plus Grands, however. To include the full "Everybody Dance" at the expense of "Le Freak" or "I Want Your Love" seems like a bizarre arbitrary decision, but it suits me fine (and gets my vote).

Still "Good Times" for me.

eight months pass...

I've just come across Chic: Greatest Hits Live In Concert or A Night In Amsterdam (it dates from 2005 and has different titles depending on the edition) on Spotify. It's pretty great, even though Spotify only has about half the tracks up.

Would have voted "I Want Your Love", but the bassline on "Everybody Dance" is one of the most ostensibly incredible I've ever heard.
