In June 2007, Tork complained to the New York Post that Jann Wenner had blackballed the Monkees from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Tork asserted:“[Wenner] doesn't care what the rules are and just operates how he sees fit. It is an abuse of power. I don't know whether the Monkees belong in the Hall of Fame, but it's pretty clear that we're not in there because of a personal whim. Jann seems to have taken it harder than everyone else, and now, 40 years later, everybody says, 'What's the big deal? Everybody else does it.'[does not play their own instruments] Nobody cares now except him. He feels his moral judgment in 1967 and 1968 is supposed to serve in 2007.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monkees

If they changed their name to the Monnkees, they'd be Inn Like Flinnt.

This is kinda sad, though:
Defending his credentials, Jones added: "There is no one more rock'n'roll than me. I still go out and party. I get through more mojitos (a cocktail) during a night than you could imagine. There were lots of girls back in the day and all kinds of things went on, but no one got to see that side of us. We were not such goody two-shoes, but we were made to appeal to kids and kids did not need to hear about that kind of thing."

― vulva eyes (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 10 September 2009 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
I really hope so; maybe he thinks he's still in the TV show and does random asides during conversation?
― "So messy!" (HI DERE), Thursday, 10 September 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago)
I saw Davy Jones in Oliver Twist in 1989, and he acted as if he'd had a few mojitos (cocktails).

Anyone else reading Joe Hagan's Jann bio Sticky Fingers? It's really good, super juicy, tons of primary sources. Jann is a complete fucking sociopath and I haven't even gotten to his college years yet.

I'm going to pick it up next week.
― clemenza, Sunday, 29 October 2017 18:08 (seven years ago)
No, because bar his early '70s interviews with John Lennon and his mid '90s Mick Jagger interview, which are thankfully archived online, I don't really give a shit about Jann Wenner. I think I've read an actual issue of Rolling Stone once in my entire life and the fact that I haven't read one since pretty much says it all. The website is a little better. I'm not interested in the buyers guides, and the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame is only ever interesting if something happens, e.g. Mike Love's speech - other than that, it's bollocks.
You can throw the likes of Rolling Stone onto the pile of things - alongside Christgau/Village Voice/Wazz & Slop - that have had zero influence on me.
