Yeah, just saw it on Wiki.

Meh. I love roots reggae. Dancehall, not so much. Anyway: The Smiths!

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 10 September 2009 20:02 (sixteen years ago)

BTW, I dream of the day when the entire New Answers page is "The Smiths v. _____________."

"Under Mi Sleng Teng". Fuck the Smiths.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 10 September 2009 20:07 (sixteen years ago)

Wait Daniel Esq. you've never heard "Under Mi Sleng Teng"? That boggles my mind.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 10 September 2009 20:07 (sixteen years ago)

I just forgot it was Wayne Smith's song.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 10 September 2009 20:09 (sixteen years ago)

Oh okay that makes more sense. It's not like he had a zillion other hits.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 10 September 2009 20:10 (sixteen years ago)

FWIW, I look for your posts on all roots reggae related threads. That is a genre I love. But I don't love -- or even like -- dancehall. It's always left me cold. Not sure why.

I was hoping this was Waylon Smithers vs The Smiths

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 10 September 2009 20:10 (sixteen years ago)

I've got that Greensleeves From Dancehall to something-or-other compilation. Aside from a few songs, I can't motivate myself to listen to it.

(One great song is about a May-December romance. A little creepy, but whatevs. It's called Twice My Age, or something similar).

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 10 September 2009 20:11 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, it's Shabba & Crystal. Even if you're not a big Dancehall fan I think a lot of 80s Ragga's got enough roots still in it for you to enjoy.

Nostalgie de la Bwoyee (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 September 2009 20:13 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah well up to a certain point. I mean if you don't like Waterhouse singing, slack deejaying and Sleng Teng (or all three) eventually the genre is not going to cease to reward you at all, but up to a certain point there is a still enough continuity to keep most folks interested.
