Out of mercy, I omitted a few of the late seventies singles.

I only really attend to the first three, and of those "Photograph" is the one.

"Photograph". Otherwise Euler OTM

however, for the art this deserves consideration:

KLAATU BARADA NIKTO

which was a clever timely joke but the quaalude chic his face embodies is amusing for different reasons.

I don't know all of these but the ones I do are all pretty good! "It Don't Come Easy" maybe has the most wallop but it feels the least Ringo-esque of anything. I think he does a pretty good "You're 16" but given the curious absence of "Beaucoups of Blues" I'm gonna give this to the goofy, goofy "No No Song."

"It Don't Come Easy" is essentially a George song to which George helpfully gave Ringo songwriting credit.

vulva eyes (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 September 2009 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

My impression is that "Photograph" is also a George song. Listening to it now: the string arrangement is gorgeous.

I'm listening to The Very Best of Ringo Starr and as a result I'd like to change my vote to "Oh My My"---this is a song I know, like, I can sing the whole thing but haven't heard it in living memory. It must be a childhood memory. But it's great! A mildly disco beat, goofy horns and an ridiculously catchy chorus.

Vini Poncia (of later KISS song doctor fame) co-wrote "Oh My My."

Gotta go with the T. Rex rip-off.

Good singles until after No No Song, then it's downhill. Voted It Don't Come Easy, Photograph 2nd.

jetfan, Friday, 11 September 2009 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, "Oh My My" is nice! Also feels very well Ringo-sized. Love this bit:

I phoned up my doctor
To see what's the matter
He said "come on over"
I said "do I have to?"

Doctor Casino, Friday, 11 September 2009 23:39 (fifteen years ago)

No No Song all the way.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 September 2009 23:43 (fifteen years ago)

I'm going with "Photograph," not necessarily for the single itself but for the poignant version Ringo performed at the memorial show on the first anniversary of George's death.

Mario Brosephs (Pancakes Hackman), Friday, 11 September 2009 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

I would hope this'll be a rout for "It Don't Come Easy" and/or "Photograph"--please not the "No No Song"! That'd be like, I don't know, going for "You Mother Should Know" over "Ticket to Ride" or "Eight Days a Week." I'll go with "Photograph," but it's close.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Saturday, 12 September 2009 01:35 (fifteen years ago)

Immediately went for Back off Boogaloo, but maybe should have paused a second and gone for Photograph.

Officer Pupp, Saturday, 12 September 2009 09:46 (fifteen years ago)

My impression is that "Photograph" is also a George song.

I'm pretty sure it's at least 90% written by George, if not 100%.

billstevejim, Saturday, 12 September 2009 16:30 (fifteen years ago)

Same with "It Don't Come Easy."

billstevejim, Saturday, 12 September 2009 16:30 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know enough about music to say this precisely, but I think "It Don't Come Easy" is more of a George song than "Photograph". The former would fit well, chord-wise, on All Things Must Pass, while the latter would stand out there (not as better than the others, but as different). The melody of the title phrase in the chorus doesn't sound like what I'd expect from George.

Well done. But did you mean to write the name of the university instead of the country?
