Husker Du?

Yoko Ono is *way* more interesting than John Lennon.

Miles Davis was a genius of course, no contest, but Betty remains a fascinating almost-unknown. "Nasty Girl" is pretty wild... that vocal style comes from outer space.

''Miles Davis was a genius of course''

Please stop taking shit. miles davis was not a genius, he had a good sound on his trumpet but his albums (that i have heard so far) are lacking in imagination and are boring as hell to listen to.

Alice's stuff is really good! and if she gets compared unfauvorably to John that would be most unfair.

miles' second quintet albums are all so good that I don't even know how I would decide if one was better than another one, julio. and kind of blue and bitches brew get special places in my personal canon. and that's just part of his discography.

haha, stop talking shit. ha.

Josh, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you are definetely wrong about bitches brew.

The problem is that the group sound takes second place to studio manipulation here. So any great playing from any of the players is complete screwed over by a 'producer' who makes a sort of proto- ambient groove out of it.

Julio Desouza, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't even think you're right about that, but you say it like it's a bad thing!

Josh, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it is bad, yes. And i am right about that.

Julio Desouza, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh no, a producer's record, how terrible. And as for all that awful amplification...

Andrew L, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Production can work for or against you. the point is production acts negatively in this case. Then there's the 'innovation' that is 'jazz- rock'.

miles vs betty vs jimi.

nathalie, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'Use-Other-Fact' Fact - "He Was a Big Freak" was about Jimi, not Miles. Then again, no secret who "Back Seat Betty" referred to. Couples in music are cool if they air their dirty laundry in public!

(I agree re 'BB'. Bo-ringggg! I LOVE the outtakes of that though ['Big Fun' - and again, the outtakes of the outtakes which were included as bonus tracks are the best tracks!] )

Mademoiselle Mabry'!

Andrew L, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Old reactionary that I am, I'll take John over Alice, Miles over Betty, John over Yoko ("*way* more interesting"? hmph.), Jack over Meg, Richard over Linda. Ladies top the Dicks in a couple of instances, though: Karen & Mimi over Richard & Richard.
