Drake sucks. Kudi does not suck.

Forgot to actually make this a poll, so let's just hash it out in the thread.

Prolly my 2 fav mainstream hiphop songs of 2009.

both originals are...ok but unsatisfying. luckily, there are two v disparate remixes which i absolutely love. crookers remix of "day n nite", which everyone knows by now, is a fucking massive banger.

and i love nicki minaj's verse on her remix of "best i ever had". drake just sings forgettable nothings in a vaguely sweet, pretty melody, but nicki actually captures tenderness and vulnerability ("you the only one that see the real nicki - i can show you chill nicki, cuz of how you deal with me") in her verse, which is particularly effective given her usual contemptuous swagger. love the line "it's so amazing - i just figured out this world is ours for the taking" - it goes such a long way to strengthening the narrative, like, this isn't just a fling: we can take the world on. and then "look at what you took down" just melts me.

that remix is cool, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the original. i love that bass "buweeeooow," and how sleazy and romantic drake's verses are, and how he sings "cause she hold me down."

the cookers remix on the other hand is the only version of the song worth listening to. still don't love the song, though. it's fun and i like all the melodies in it, but the delivery is a bit lame, plus the lyrics-while not hard to ignore-bleh.

bassline in a difft key, check. glitchy drums, check. overlong annoying star trek redalert breakdown where u roll your eyes waiting for it to kick in again, check
