Love "Words", but this still has to be "There Goes The Fear". One of the singles of the noughties.

don't like this album much, and was a massive fan of 'lost souls'.

i do like 'the sulphur man' quite a bit though and think it's worthy of my vote.

bump

Bee OK, Friday, 18 September 2009 05:23 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe one doves (one dove? nm, carryon) album is all you need? I got this one, later got "Lost Souls" and the one in the box with a DVD that had one hit, and um, didn't get into those.

But this one was the one.

Mark G, Friday, 18 September 2009 08:35 (fifteen years ago)

i think i'll be the only one to vote for "m62 song".

myndbloom, Friday, 18 September 2009 08:38 (fifteen years ago)

I like that one too.

Mark G, Friday, 18 September 2009 08:40 (fifteen years ago)

voted that also

unban dictionary (blueski), Friday, 18 September 2009 10:52 (fifteen years ago)

Sweet, good to know i'm not the only one.

myndbloom, Friday, 18 September 2009 15:18 (fifteen years ago)

this still sounded pretty good to me. i have always loved "Words" and "There Goes the Fear." other songs that stood out were "M62 Song," "Satellites" and "Pounding." voting for "Caught By the River."

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

"Caught By the River," yeah, but I think the guitar hook on "Words" puts that over the top for me.

This record seemed more diverse than the others (haven't heard Lost Souls yet, though). "There Goes the Fear" is a classic.

musicfanatic, Sunday, 20 September 2009 00:23 (fifteen years ago)

"there goes the fear" ftw; this album not as consistent as lost souls (that would make an interesting poll) but plenty to love here. love all the ambient bits too

skeletor, Sunday, 20 September 2009 01:47 (fifteen years ago)

i like Lost Souls a lot but don't think it has as many good songs as this album has.

Bee OK, Sunday, 20 September 2009 05:40 (fifteen years ago)

I used to love driving across the Pennines on the M62 and so the M62 Song should have been a partial soundtrack ... but they let me down. Worst Doves song?

djh, Sunday, 20 September 2009 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

so hard to choose between the last 4 songs.

danzig, Sunday, 20 September 2009 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

lol silent majority

alien vs the smiths (country matters), Sunday, 20 September 2009 23:06 (fifteen years ago)

the mumbling in the verse of 'there goes the fear' always puts me off. sounds like he's singing with a mouth full of boiled lollies.

'lost souls' has about 8 or 9 songs i love, seriously. i think it's far superior to this one.

Charlie Howard, Monday, 21 September 2009 03:11 (fifteen years ago)

ten years pass...

This is absolutely destroying me this evening. I'd vote for Caught by the River or Satellites.

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Friday, 10 April 2020 18:59 (five years ago)

nice bump, i have not heard this record in such a long time. seems like a great time to play it again.
