Whoor. The Future - OR - Ooh, you have pedals, I'm SOOOOOOOOOO impressed...

I saw Bardo pond yesterday (excellent really) (Stuart from shitty post-rockers Mogwai was there) but the opening act was just like the description above. Just pedals and...so fucking what! With a bassist who just couldn't be bothered to sing (or her nerves just ate her up).

The music on the other hand is a load of hype.

Just kidding - I like Bardo Pond's music you see.

The Music are ok but I'm yet to discern a tune amongst the 'psychedelia' so far in any of their tracks

Give 'em a chance, their still in their late teens. NME described one of their sets as a "kiddie verve-a-thon" which I thought mildly amusing. Imagine getting paid to come up with sardonic put-downs like that, it must be quite a life.

one thing is getting paid, however 'how much?' is quite another.

three weeks pass...
The Music are alright man. There's definitely potential there. It's just a shame they look like spotty kids. Give em time to get into psychedelics and late night coke sessions and they might put the pieces of the puzzle together. Any band who can pull off ripping the Verve and the Stone Roses deserves a stay of execution.

We heard them at Glastonbury. The sinister mastermind who put them together must have been tearing his hair out. "No, you fools, no! The Stone Roses became the most feted indie band in Britain with their FIRST album! You're ripping off the wrong record!"

Tom, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dud, because calling your band "The Music" is amazingly crass. Do they come onstage and say "Hello, we are The Music!"? I mean... tch. Regrettable.

one month passes...
Why does the singer from The Music sound so much like Perry Farrell???

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 13:21 (twenty-three years ago)

...and look so much like any member of the hackysack crew I regularly had to dodge on my strolls through campus years ago?

Andy K (Andy K), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan, I was watching with a ladyfriend and she too said "this sound's just like Jane's". You weren't veggin out all day to Changing Rooms were you?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

You weren't veggin out all day to Changing Rooms were you?

Not all day, no. (I also played NFL 2K1 and drove a friend to the bus station. Oh, and watched some historical US Open matches.)

See how I pre-empt the zeitgeist...

Oddly, my hair is now disturbingly like Robert Harvey's. I'm built in a worryingly similar fashion to Craig Nicholls. My first name could be shortened to Bill, much like a member of The Coral. Occasionally I call people 'divvies', a bit like the Libertines do.

If I am not on the cover of the NME within the next three months, I'm getting Magnum to investigate...

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 18:56 (twenty-three years ago)

nice.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dont get the Stone Roses 'comparison' myself (several people have made it), they're more like the bastard son of Reef and early Verve...but actually better than that sounds

of course if you dont like British swaggy baggy psyche-pop rock (god i love making these things up on the spot) brimming with exhuberant idealism then The Music are not for you....and if you feel like you've heard it all before then thats fair enough, but it doesnt seem to stop you listening to The Strokes eh? ;)

i like em tho i'm not sure how much mileage they've actually got - Reef's or The Verve's???

blueski, Tuesday, 3 September 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Their TOTP appearance suggested a whole lot of groove but not enough hooks/melody/personality . The better baggy bands had truckloads of those (as did Jane's Addiction).
