my 40th birthday/ridiculously specific request

I'm turning 40 in a month, and I want to spend the day listening to music that was made on the day I was born. I'm casting about for help. Can any of you help technologically unsophisticated me locate recordings of concerts from October 16, 1969? The ones I have in mind, thanks to some Googling (though anything else that fits the bill would be welcome):

Neil Young, The Canterbury House, Ann Arbor
David Bowie & Humble Pie, All Saints Church Hall, London
Fleetwood Mac, Green's Playhouse, Glasgow
The Move/Joe Cocker/Little Richard, Fillmore West, San Francisco
The Nice, Winter Garden, Malvern

Also close enough for my purposes:

Pete Seeger & Peter Paul & Mary singing Give Peace A Chance at the Vietnam Moratorium (Washington DC, October 15)
The Who - Pure Rock Theater (Ottawa Civic Centre, October 15)
Led Zeppelin (Carnegie Hall, October 17)
Velvet Underground - End of Cole Ave and The First Night (Dallas, October 18 & 19)

Shooting in the dark & crossing my fingers here. Any of you have any of these, or pointers in the right direction? Many thanks.

This suggests that the first Black Sabbath album was recorded on October 16, 1969.

the whole birthday concept is perpetrated by the man anyway, man

anyone tuned in celebrates the whole birthweek

VU show available over here: http://gratefulbreed.blogspot.com/2008/09/velvet-underground-live-at-end-cole.html one of the best!

tylerw, Wednesday, 16 September 2009 19:07 (fifteen years ago)

Just an hour in, and you all have again proven this board's greatness. Thanks for the Dead johnny, and the VU tlerw! (tylerw, have you ever come across the Neil Young show? You seem like the right guy to ask...) And awesome jaymc, adding the Sabbath to my 10/16/69 studio sessions list! The rest of which is:

Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief
Dusty Springfield - From Dusty With Love
Mose Allison - Hello There, Universe
Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda
Kenny Burrell - Asphalt Canyon Suite
Strauss: Metamorphesen - George Szell Conducts In Stereo

This is shaping up to be a good day. I am game for celebrating a birthweek. Let the festivities continue!

dad a, Wednesday, 16 September 2009 19:53 (fifteen years ago)

isn't the canterbury Neil Young thing the Sugar Mountain release that just came out last year? Or is that different ...

tylerw, Wednesday, 16 September 2009 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

oh wait, that was 1968 ... don't know if there's a recording of him at that venue in 1969 ...

tylerw, Wednesday, 16 September 2009 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

The Beatles did not record on that day.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 September 2009 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

No, they'd packed up and gone home after recording "Abbey Road"

Supposedly, October 17 was the first day the Stones were in LA to finish off recording/mixing Let It Bleed at Sunset Sound and Elektra Studios. (the tour didn't start until November)

The forthcoming release of an official Live CD from one of the shows on this tour will testament to the fact that there was no other band like The Move!

John Rock October 16, 1999

I guess this never happened then...

Mark G, Thursday, 17 September 2009 09:13 (fifteen years ago)

Just floored by the love and attention this is getting. It's like you all stared throwing me a party a month early. Thanks Eazy and Elvis!

Also, October 16 is the same birthday as Nico, Bob Mould, and Boogie Mosson so act accordingly

Bob Weir and Flea, too! The mind reels trying to conceive the sort of drug cocktail you'd need to concoct to emulate them all at once.

Also turning 40 on 10/16/69: David C Clark (Louisville sax player, have any of you heard him?), Wendy Wilson (of Wilson Phillips), and Roy Hargrove. After I gather up all the songs I can find, I want to send the three of them mix CDs with the cream of the crop in time for their birthday celebrations. Hope they like Sabbath!

dad a, Thursday, 17 September 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

The only one I know of for my birthday, 5/7/70, is that CSN&Y recorded "Ohio" on that day. It got put together pretty quickly in response to Kent St. shootings 3 days before.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but:

This seems like an awesome idea, I started looking up stuff for my upcoming 30th and apparently Def Leppard did a BBC session on 10/5/1979 playing

xp

all you need is love vs. money (that's what i want) (Ioannis), Thursday, 17 September 2009 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

xp: By all means hijack away. I mean, I'm loving the love, but I'm well aware that other people have birthdays that interest them too. And I'm OK with that!

Really it's totally gratifying if anyone else inspired to do this sort of thing, and it makes me feel less like a self-involved music obsessive (and more like a part of a COMMUNITY of self-involved music obsessives).

couldn't seem to find anything for 11/14/82 - any google tips, pros?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 17 September 2009 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

Google terms used: "November 14 1982" music recording. First relevant hit I found: Badfinger in Minneapolis, some songs available on bootleg CD, "Would The Real Badfinger Please Stand Up"
http://badfinge.ipower.com/Badfinger/BadfingerinConcert/BadfingerinConcert81-83.html

dad a, Thursday, 17 September 2009 19:00 (fifteen years ago)

durrr I was looking at search term recorded and that may have been why, thank you, will carry on!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 17 September 2009 19:02 (fifteen years ago)

I got five relevant hits with these search terms: "14-11-1982" bootleg

U2 at Wembley: http://www.geocities.com/bourbonese/IndieUKboot.html
Motorhead in Rome: http://ironfist.chez-alice.fr/interest.htm
Budgie in Manchester: http://au.geocities.com/drain_man35/audio.html
Icicle Works Radio Sessions: http://bubu-musicalementvotre.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Judas Priest in Winnipeg: http://tchortmetalbootleg.webpark.pl/audio.htm

And you're off at the races!

dad a, Thursday, 17 September 2009 19:11 (fifteen years ago)

All I could find for me (4/14/64 - old guy) was a bootleg live recording of Charlie Mingus in Copenhagen. Downloading it as I type!

Jazzbo, Thursday, 17 September 2009 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

Not music-related, but:

Thursday, Oct. 16, 1969

9 a.m. - Patrolmen Froukes and Zelms, who had seen the stocky man walking into the Presidio, realized that the man they saw must have been Zodiac. They filed an initial report with their captain; this was sent as an interdepartmental communication to Armstrong and Toschi. The two patrolmen were "shattered and filled with despair."

With the help of Foukes and Zelms, a second composite drawing was made and circulated, with a more accurate description of Zodiac. The patrolmen's report and statement were placed in confidential files. SFPD officially denied that Zodiac had ever been seen by any policemen and continue to do so to this day. The police have never been able to explain why a second composite drawing was suddenly made.

thank you dad a! so excited to make myself a birthday playlist too. what a cool idea! wish I listened to more late 70s/early 80s bands though! I'll go figure out what Yoko was doing, I guess... ;)

Jazzbo: the day you were born, Anamari recorded a track for her self-titled record .. backed by Art Farmer, Jim Hall, Steve Swallow, and Pete LaRoca! And the Shadows cut "Theme For Young Lovers"

Bill Magill; there's a Jefferson Airplane bootleg from the Fillmore on 5/17/70, and there's also this Doors CD:

Damn, I almost started a "What musical milestone happened the day you were born?" thread a coupla months ago, then decided it was too esoteric (and maybe hard to research) and settled for merely reviving an already-existing similar ILE thread instead.

Anyways, as an unofficial soundtrack to my own birth:

Ioannis: you, Kermit Ruffins, and Charles "Mercury" Nelson from the Force MD's! The day you all were born, Tony Conrad recorded "Four Violins" described here as "four overdubbed tracks of supremely grating violin screech drone of the highest kind--just the most visceral veils of undulating reality sparkle you could ever dream of floating through." Nice.
