Looking for vocal jazz songs with a similar sound to that of see-line woman by Nina Simone. Any particular song or album worth searching for?

note: Similar Nina Simone songs already considered.

Anita O'Day has a really slow version of "Sweet Georgia Brown" where she's backed mostly by percussion, I think -- not sure if you're looking for more energetic stuff like the Simone above. But it's a cool recording!

Well I am mostly looking for pulsating, energetic performances but any sort of recommendation comes in handy. Is there more than one version of that Anita O Day performance? The one I've heard is rather backboned by the piano than by the drums.

I was gonna say Donald Byrd's "A New Perspective" album too but that's a choir and more in a hard bop vein - probably more instrumentation than you're thinking of.
I love this kind of stuff tho, just voices and percussion.
Joni Mitchell's "Jungle Line"...?

this is a beautiful album. i think one side is african percussion and the other is native american? tons of choral vocals. at least that's what the cover and back cover make you think. it's been a second since i've listened to it.

see line woman is one of my fave tracks, btw. it's kinda weird to even suggest this, but you might want to check out Moodyman. lots of his songs have that same feel. real loose, soulful singing, jazzy samples and great percussion.
