i'm going to vote for 'peace sells', but i do think that 'welcome to the jungle' is the best song here overall.

Charlie Howard, Friday, 18 September 2009 05:19 (sixteen years ago)

BREAKING THE LAW BREAKING THE LAW

you don't know what it's like

Zachary Taylor, Friday, 18 September 2009 06:03 (sixteen years ago)

if you would have chosen "photograph" instead of "pour some sugar..." for def leppard i think this poll would be a runaway.

A DOG, A BARREL... RIDICULOUS! (jjjusten), Friday, 18 September 2009 06:12 (sixteen years ago)

i could vote for like half of the options on this poll

A DOG, A BARREL... RIDICULOUS! (jjjusten), Friday, 18 September 2009 06:16 (sixteen years ago)

and i actively hate the other half. weird

A DOG, A BARREL... RIDICULOUS! (jjjusten), Friday, 18 September 2009 06:17 (sixteen years ago)

Megadeth feels a little out of place here to me. VH, AC/DC, G&R are fine but overplayed.

Voting for Ratt, with Great White and (yep) Winger close behind.

Where's Poison?

Random trolling, brutal snubs, darted zings & decisive bans (Myonga Vön Bontee), Friday, 18 September 2009 09:20 (sixteen years ago)

Judas Priest ahead of Skid Row, Van Halen and Def Leppard. Shurely "Breaking the Law" is too aggro for this poll tho?

i could vote for like half of the options on this poll

and i actively hate the other half. weird

same.

several are my least favourite songs from bands I otherwise really like (VH, AC/DC, DLR). some are just drek.

might have to vote for 'love in an elevator', for proustian reasons. the instrumental break was the theme music for 'raw power' (UK metal TV show in the early '90s). reminds me of getting up early before school on a thursday morning to watch a videoed 3AM metalfest.

m the g, Friday, 18 September 2009 12:18 (sixteen years ago)

ugh

def leppard by default

YSMANL is the only one of these I have really good and curiously vivd memories of hooting along to off an iPod at 7am, so that

you used to sleep with somebody who avoided a soap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 18 September 2009 13:03 (sixteen years ago)

OTOH Breakin' The Law is the only one of these songs I sing to myself whenever I see a car with a numberplate in a non-standard typeface, so maybe that

you used to sleep with somebody who avoided a soap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 18 September 2009 13:04 (sixteen years ago)

lol whenever I have a beer on the tube/a bus I get Breakin' The Law stuck in my head, so that.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 18 September 2009 13:20 (sixteen years ago)

AC/DC.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 September 2009 13:22 (sixteen years ago)

Where the fuck are Iron Maiden in this by the way?

Matt DC, Friday, 18 September 2009 13:23 (sixteen years ago)

And Warrant - Down Boys - I don't even know that song - why no Cherry Pie?

Colonel Poo, Friday, 18 September 2009 13:25 (sixteen years ago)

I heard Livin' on a Prayer in a shop earlier today and for the first time ever it struck me as kinda amazing. I don't know if I'm deluded through tiredness or what so I'll abstain from voting just now.

Akon/Family (Merdeyeux), Friday, 18 September 2009 13:28 (sixteen years ago)

Can't believe you don't know Down Boys: "the way the street light silhouettes your thighs inside your dress"!!!

Skot is f'ing with us, though. I don't know why...but he's f'ing with us.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Friday, 18 September 2009 13:32 (sixteen years ago)

Warrant only ever had a top 40 hit with Cherry Pie in the UK is probably why, just looked it up.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 18 September 2009 14:13 (sixteen years ago)

rrrrrrrrrrround and round

drakeula vs the roflman (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 18 September 2009 14:14 (sixteen years ago)

Ratt!

what the man said.

all you need is love vs. money (that's what i want) (Ioannis), Friday, 18 September 2009 18:12 (sixteen years ago)

Lots of "greatest songs of all time" type songs here. I'm voting for one of them. Maybe "Down Boys." Maybe "Kiss Me Deadly." Maybe "Round and Round." Maybe even Cinderella or Kix, though those are far from their best songs. ("Cold Blood" is still great, though.) Definitely not voting for Aerosmith or Skid Row, though they have both done greatest songs of all time type songs too (lots of them from Aerosmith, "18 and Life" from Skid Row respectively.) And "Radar Love" and "Face The Day" are more of the greatest songs of all time, but only when Golden Earring and Angel City do them. "Jump," "Welcome To The Jungle," "You Shook Me All Night Long"? Too easy. So Lita it is.

xhuxk, Friday, 18 September 2009 18:23 (sixteen years ago)

"Round and Round." Stepehn Pearcy is one of the best least talented singers ever.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 18 September 2009 18:57 (sixteen years ago)

Stephen, obv.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 18 September 2009 18:57 (sixteen years ago)

Can't discount "In My Dreams", either. George Lynch's solo is one of the finest pop meetal shred-fests ever recorded.

A. Begrand, Friday, 18 September 2009 19:12 (sixteen years ago)

voted for Round and Round, which I still listen to on a regular basis (usually after a drink or two).

A polar bear you can see in a snowstorm (rockapads), Saturday, 19 September 2009 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

Queensryche is my favorite thing on this list, but I don't think it's in really in the spirit of pop metal. Voting Lita Ford.

glenn mcdonald, Saturday, 19 September 2009 03:46 (sixteen years ago)

i forgot i started this poll! man, i was drunk last night.

this is actually the track-listing to a rhino records metal millennium party compilation. i don't think it ever came out though. they paid me to write the liner notes for it. i found the CDs in a box last night. i always the thought the track-listing was a little strange. (at least i don't think it ever came out. i don't know why. maybe my notes were too k-tel for them. i was aiming for maximum k-tel hyperbole. which was kinda fun!)

um, i was gonna explain all that last night, but i think i passed out or something.

scott seward, Saturday, 19 September 2009 04:22 (sixteen years ago)

The synth theme wins this one for "Jump". One of the best synth riffs ever!

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Saturday, 19 September 2009 19:32 (sixteen years ago)

Jump, always

owenf, Saturday, 19 September 2009 23:12 (sixteen years ago)

can you post your liner notes scott?
maybe would've voted for yankee rose had it been included instead of just like paradise.
so i'll vote for Ratt.

mizzell, Saturday, 19 September 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

i voted for ratt. i love that song.

scott seward, Saturday, 19 September 2009 23:26 (sixteen years ago)

The key is the phrase "pop-metal" which for me meant the songs here that I like by Bon Jovi, Ratt, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Lita Ford. But I'm voting for Ratt, slightly over Van Halen, because that song defines the genre. Pop hooks with a metal bent.

jetfan, Sunday, 20 September 2009 00:39 (sixteen years ago)

"no one like you" for the best guitar solo in the bunch. yes that includes "jungle" you buncha snot-nosed kids.

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Sunday, 20 September 2009 01:26 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, that's the one I voted for. Always liked it.

Sundar, Sunday, 20 September 2009 01:45 (sixteen years ago)

I have all kinds of time for Scorpions, but "No One Like You" is almost halfway down the list of my favorite songs by them, so I'm gonna have to vote "Round and Round" on this one. (I know I've spoken of it before, but y'all should really check out the re-recording on Stephen Pearcy's solo album from last year - he uses the Donnas as his backing band and the vocals are a duet with Donna A. It's well worth your time. As is the record as a whole - 11 tracks in under 35 minutes, with maybe one ballad.)

neither good nor bad, just a kid like you (unperson), Sunday, 20 September 2009 01:51 (sixteen years ago)

you can't write a better pop metal song than "Round and Round"

Nate Carson, Sunday, 20 September 2009 09:05 (sixteen years ago)

second place to AC/DC. That song slams.

Nate Carson, Sunday, 20 September 2009 09:06 (sixteen years ago)

I prefer 'Why Can't This Be Love', which is more poppy and actually might be my favorite VH jam *period*, but yes, 'Jump' it is.

Thijs, Sunday, 20 September 2009 11:47 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 24 September 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

Justice! I've been on a big Ratt kick because of this thread. Thanks for that Scott!

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 24 September 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

The first 3 are in the correct order. Righteous.

Y'know, what goes around comes around.

Nate Carson, Thursday, 24 September 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, good result overall.
