why is this happening? maybe we should just stop talking about the beatles albums? idk? challop? it's annoying tho in general (and it's obv not just the beatles)

the thread that started it all...
but I really love the Boys and never meant for this to become some meme, now I feel bad for contributing to a possible perception of ILM actually being music-hating killjoys
― Hat Trick Swayze (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 23:24 (sixteen years ago)
i blame you too, shakey (for everything)
― iirc flair (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)
I like talking about Beatles albums, and polling worst tracks so far seems to be generating more provocative discussion than polling the best.

oh, and I'm also sorry I caused all that cancer
― Hat Trick Swayze (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 23:26 (sixteen years ago)
Nothing necessarily music hating about it! 'Worst' is relative.
― chap, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)
honestly chap I'm cool with the Beatles ones cuz those have been fun threads and the reissues just came out etc.
Ramones one makes me angry tho
― Hat Trick Swayze (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)
the threads seem okay i guess but it's kind of disconcerting scrolling down ilm new answers and seeing the word WORST 15+ times
― iirc flair (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)
picking albums/artists that everybody thinks are generally fantastic and arguing over where their weak points are = not horrible idea, imo
having a dozen of these threads going at once = horrible idea, imo
― iatee, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)
I guess we could start competing Best Of polls for balance.
how irritating would that be

yes, i used to post there.

yeah i have no problem w/ doing similar polls or polls about the same artist, and have done so myself many times...but you gotta stagger 'em out, cluttering up New Answers with more than 1 or 2 at a time is just lame.
― uh oh I'm having a baby (some dude), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 23:45 (sixteen years ago)
as i mentioned on one of the beatles threads, i agree with chap that there's more discussion going on when polling the worst tracks, probably because all albums generally have one or two standout best ones that everyone agrees with.

also feeds the Beatles remaster fever: must talk about ALL beatles songs, at length, NOW. It's part of the 12 step program.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Thursday, 24 September 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)
I started the Beatles ones because the Beach Boys polls were fun and everyone's been listening to the Beatles this month.
To get fewer of these polls on the New Answers page, I'll wait until all the current polls close before continuing with Sgt. Pepper.
― abanana, Thursday, 24 September 2009 02:55 (sixteen years ago)
:(
― VegemiteGrrrl, Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:16 (sixteen years ago)
i don't know how many albums the polls would work well with, but i've enjoyed the beatles threads. i think maybe because considering the records from the standpoint of weak spots instead of "best song" or c/d or whatever, it kind of opens them up critically in a different way.
― flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:35 (sixteen years ago)
Don't stop posting polls, abanana! There's like 765,123 other threads people can read.
― Darin, Thursday, 24 September 2009 05:26 (sixteen years ago)
the beatles ones are great imo
― "I get through more mojitos.." (bear, bear, bear), Thursday, 24 September 2009 05:34 (sixteen years ago)
it worked really well with the beach boys bcz of their tendency to include completely wacko things on almost all their records, some of which were terrible and some weren't
the beatles aren't quite so predictable about it but there's still 'mr moonlight' i guess
if we start doing this with everything ever though - which the ramones one seemed to be a harbinger of - it's just gonna get aaaaaaaaaagrhg annoying
― thomp, Thursday, 24 September 2009 05:35 (sixteen years ago)
yep ^^
― "I get through more mojitos.." (bear, bear, bear), Thursday, 24 September 2009 05:38 (sixteen years ago)
The Beatles ones also work because like 90% of the posters know their entire catalog. In a few weeks, when people are starting worst of polls for Grizzly Bear or Black Oak Arkansas, no one will click on them anyway.
― Darin, Thursday, 24 September 2009 05:45 (sixteen years ago)
These threads are all on the new answers page because people like posting on them. Don't stop making them yet.
― Sickamous (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 24 September 2009 06:07 (sixteen years ago)
Seconded!
It means we talk about the less feted tracks! And find that people like them!
e.g. "Don't bother me" was always regarded as a dud, and now we find peopple think it OK.
― Mark G, Thursday, 24 September 2009 07:10 (sixteen years ago)
i somehow feel as if this is all my fault. :>(
btw, re: series(?) polls: i thought we were all more or less in agreement that we would wait for a poll to run its due course before starting the follow-up.
― livin' large under the shadow of a Suggest Ban (Ioannis), Thursday, 24 September 2009 07:22 (sixteen years ago)
Maybe but I also think it needs to be done *now* rather than still be polling Beatles albums in 2 months.
― Mark G, Thursday, 24 September 2009 07:26 (sixteen years ago)
agreed. but it can get a bit tiresome seeing all those worst this-that-or-the-other-thing threads on the NAP.
― livin' large under the shadow of a Suggest Ban (Ioannis), Thursday, 24 September 2009 07:30 (sixteen years ago)

I want a new Beatles poll every day, damnit.
― Sickamous (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 24 September 2009 08:25 (sixteen years ago)
It was good when it was the Beach Boys, because there were a lot of entertainingly terrible and WTF Beach Boys songs - obviously I might be saying that because I prefer the Beach Boys, but I just think the Beatles were a bit too professional and disciplined to produce that much nonsense
― Aw naw, no' Annoni oan an' aw noo (Tom D.), Thursday, 24 September 2009 09:38 (sixteen years ago)

yeah - I mean, I just look at site new answers, it's still like "oh, now we're doing 'worsts' - guess that'll be the thing for a while" (or maybe permanently - I expected polls to sort of die out, but they didn't). I'm sort of a non-methodical dude so the impulse that says "now that we've had a 'worst song on' thread, we must have them every day for every album forever'" is really foreign to me.

Polls are a complete waste of space anyway and the variation in Worst/Best poll threads is negligible. Isn't there a way in prefs to hide polls?
― brotherlovesdub, Friday, 25 September 2009 18:07 (sixteen years ago)
Could someone (not me) please start a "Worst poll out of the worst of the Beatles' albums polls" poll?
