I've always loved the loose, almost bluesy 70s sound to this disc, and the sly references to other rock songs and acts. It's also one of the most consistent rock discs of the decade. What's your favorite song, and why?

Your Blood

extremely demanding on the hardware (ciderpress), Sunday, 27 September 2009 01:50 (fifteen years ago)

My favorite is an unlikely choice, I think: Watercolors Into The Ocean.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 27 September 2009 01:52 (fifteen years ago)

oh and my reason why: it's the catchiest, that's all

Sick Priest is a close #2 i think

There's this "falling downhill" quality to the curling guitar notes in Watercolors that I love.

European Oils because driving around at night and "THE FUCKING MANIAC"

This line, from this morning's ranking of Destroyer's Rubies as P2k's No. 158 best disc of the decade (ranked too low imo, but whatevs.), nicely captures the essence of the disc: "the shaggy jazz and folk-rock, the coy glam posturing, and the swatches of lives cast in abstruse metaphors."

Looter's Follies is the strongest track on this album.
esp. from it's 2nd part - the la,la,la...coda till the end.

Between title track and painter in your pocket for me. Wicked album.

painter in your pocket for the "... hoo" followed by that bendy guitar line

samosa gibreel, Thursday, 8 October 2009 23:39 (fifteen years ago)

"Bendy" is a great way to describe that guitar line.

"Rubies." Love love the part where Bejar sings: "Dock of the BAY" and then the electric guitar line kicks in.

i saw him do a solo acoustic set last saturday in a church, and like half the audience laughed when he sang this part, and my girlfriend said "wow."

this taps into the same nerve that albums like songs of leonard cohen hit in me. contemplative warm shit you can listen to for hours.
