WHO'S HAD THE BEST FOUR ALBUM RUN OF THE 2000s?

http://i.realone.com/assets/rn/cms/2005/large/Stevie_Wonder_-_Billboard_Music_Awards_2004_-_lg.6806558.jpg

I picked the most passionate, iconic, popular, obvious, "OTM"'d and "seconded" choices from the other thread (before it devolved into people just naming bands). As Stevie would want it, studio albums only (no EPs, live, B-sides, etc).

This thread is about deliberating a winner, not quibbling about why your favorite band is not on the list. On to the nominees.

Wee Tam and the lolhueg (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

pick the best act of the decade

Not exactly, since being a great act means a lot more than putting out great records

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:24 (fifteen years ago)

i dont know whether to vote liars, hold steady or ghostface.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:24 (fifteen years ago)

I'm gonna go with Ghostface on this one

(followed close by Animal Collective, Liars and White Stripes in that order)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

Actually, shit, I've never hear Bulletproof Wallets. I thought ppl didn't rate that one?

Wee Tam and the lolhueg (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

download the one with the original samples the couldn't clear - 'tis amazing.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

actual bulletproof wallets is a bit dull compared.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:32 (fifteen years ago)

William Basinski. Never in doubt.

young depardieu looming out of void in hour of profound triumph (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:33 (fifteen years ago)

Montgomery Gentry. May have gone with Toby Keith if he was up there, though.

xhuxk, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:36 (fifteen years ago)

xpost samuel-- how can I tell it's that one? Are there tracks which aren't present on the retail version?

Wee Tam and the lolhueg (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:37 (fifteen years ago)

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:41 (fifteen years ago)

Coldplay

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:41 (fifteen years ago)

If it has "The Sun" on it, that's the uncleared one.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:42 (fifteen years ago)

I'm gonna go with Ghostface on this one

(followed close by Animal Collective, Liars and White Stripes in that order)

― Whiney G. Weingarten,

I've never heard the Liars so replace them w/Spoon but otherwise yeah what Whiney said

Damn, I forgot about Calexico. They should be on here.

govt just cut all ties with acorn squash (Pillbox), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

Ah, I do have 'The Sun' and maybe some of the other uncleared stuff on some weird Ghostface odds n' sods collection already...

Wee Tam and the lolhueg (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah there was a collection, Hidden Darts, that collected all that stuff and other things which appeared on the various Hidden Darts Mixtapes. That's great and probably easily as good as any of his LPs from the decade.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

I'm gonna go with Ghostface on this one

(followed close by Animal Collective, The Clientele, The New Pornographers, Spoon, Low, Calexico and Kanye West Liars and White Stripes in that order)

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 29 September 2009 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

Bulletproof Wallets is definitely the least classic of that four album run but it's definitely better than, say, Strawberry Jam or Icky Thump.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 22:03 (fifteen years ago)

being honest w/ myself, its radiohead

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 22:04 (fifteen years ago)

or Icky Thump

^^^the first genuinely bad White Stripes album. Nary a memorable tune in sight.

Bulletproof Wallets is definitely the least classic of that four album run but it's definitely better than, say, Strawberry Jam or Icky Thump.

It's better, maybe, but it's still mediocre at best.

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 05:42 (fifteen years ago)

no way it's great!

chris drown (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 05:42 (fifteen years ago)

There's maybe half a dozen good tracks on Bulletproof Wallets. I can see why people want it to be another great album after that stunning one-two punch of Ironman and Supreme Clientele, but honestly, the rest of the album is filler.

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 05:47 (fifteen years ago)

no ISIS?

my boring answers are radiohead and animal collective with a slight nod to AC for being the more consistent of the two.

but screw it man, i'm gonna vote for mastodon!

Charlie Howard, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 07:31 (fifteen years ago)

I went Wilco, but my crybaby choice would have been Aimee Mann. Or, hell, maybe Morrissey.

Joseph McCombs, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 08:17 (fifteen years ago)

Voted Lightning Bolt cos I wanted to be the special little guy that voted Lightning Bolt

Toss my salad?? - Niles Caulder, Monday, September 28, 2009 11:49 PM (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 08:46 (fifteen years ago)

Voted White Stripes, but my crybaby choice is the Drive-By Truckers who clearly should be on this list. Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst, too.

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 09:51 (fifteen years ago)

I only stopped short of naming Aimee Mann because of Whiney's mental canon only rule. That and I'm too lazy to google when Bachelor No. 2 came out.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 09:56 (fifteen years ago)

were you voting for your nutty cherry-picked non-consecutive mixtapes 4, or are you actually repping for 500 Degreez?
