No contest. AC/DC. In a landslide.

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 01:39 (fifteen years ago)

I'm from New England, but even my homerism isn't enough to get me to vote for Aerosmith in this one.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 01:39 (fifteen years ago)

When AC/DC write a song like "Dream On", then we can mention them in the same poll.

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

It's called "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You".

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 04:50 (fifteen years ago)

Bon Scott reps are gonna hate me for saying that, though.

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 04:53 (fifteen years ago)

The question is "But who rocks more?" Not something arbitrary and subjective like "But who do you like more?"

AC/DC should get 100% of this vote.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 05:01 (fifteen years ago)

An AC/DC vs. Zeppelin ts would be more evenly matched

man, Aerosmith was just about my favorite band growing up, and even i've gotta go with the Aussie's here.

Aerosmtih is better. AC/DC never made anything as good as Rocks.

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 09:46 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, that's probably true.

"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" is an asteroid that demolishes the flawless city that is the red Greatest Hits album. But even leaving that aside, AC/DC.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

if Aerosmith had packed it in after Night in the Ruts or even Done With Mirrors this would be an entirely different poll, but as it is, it's gotta be AC/DC. I seriously can't think of one great band who's done more to deflate their own legacy than Aerosmith. they were so goddamn cool once.

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 12:34 (fifteen years ago)

Given that awards shows and such always seem to announce the presence of "Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith" in the exact same way, I sense that Perry's continued participation is bound by all sort of legalese to identify him as the co-leader. Like Daimler-Chrysler, an equally fruitful merger.

bendy, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 12:58 (fifteen years ago)

acca dacca have also done a reasonable job of deflating their own legacy too. but that's largely because they started putting out shit music. they've obviously stayed achingly true to their principles, so they can't be blamed on the same level as aerosmith there.

but yeah, AC/DC in a heartbeat. as far as anthemic hard rock songs go, it simply doesn't get better than the likes of 'highway to hell'.

I like Rocks, but this is total bullshit (Powerage, Let There Be Rock, Highway to Hell, Back In Black). AC/DC never did anything as bad as "Pink" or "Love in and Elevator". AC/DC in a total whitewash.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 13:03 (fifteen years ago)

It just struck me that "Love in an Elevator" would be less annoying if they simply called it "Sex in an Elevator". Still a shit piece of backing, though.

The distinguishing feature between late AC/DC and late Aerosmith is that AC/DC would probably just call it "Sex in an Elevator' and not try to be coy, and at least the recording would conform to early Mutt Lange specs, rather that trying to sound contemporary.

this is kinda tough for me - I'm not totally in love with either band and have sorta a longstanding dislike of AC/DC. However, post-rehab Aerosmith is horribly embarrassingly bad, whereas AC/DC's continued output just seems innocuous. I do really love some early Aerosmith (Toys in the Attic, Rocks) but dunno how much I should count their later period against them. They write better songs and are funnier than AC/DC, in general. AC/DC are so lunkheadedly committed to their own stupidity its kinda endearing, but nothing exciting ever happens in their music.

the taint of Macca is strong (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 20:27 (fifteen years ago)

I'd honestly say they run about even through the '70s, and AC/DC only make me give a shit through 1980, whereas Aerosmith make me give a shit through 1985 (Done With Mirrors, which I'll take over any AC/DC LP with Brian, including the first one). But after that it's a choice between consistently tolerable mediocrity (AC/DC) and tolerable mediocrity mixed with downright shittiness (Aerosmith). So I'll take AC/DC, I guess, just for the past quarter century sucking less.

xhuxk, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 20:31 (fifteen years ago)

And I also don't like any Aerosmith track in the past 24 years nearly as much as "Who Made Who," which was 1987. (Aerosmith's best track since Mirrors is what, "Jaded" maybe?) So that's another point in AC/DC's favor.

xhuxk, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 20:35 (fifteen years ago)

AC/DC, easily.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Wednesday, 30 September 2009 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

And actually, I'm probably underrating AC/DC's early '80s up above. At this point, I'd much rather hear "Let's Get It Up" or "Sink The Pink," if they ever actually came on the radio, which they don't, more than I'd want to hear "Back In Black" or "You Shook Me," which always make me change the channel no matter how horrible a person that makes me.

In contrast, I never change the channel on a '70s Aerosmith song. '70s AC/DC, it probably depends on my mood. But I really don't think AC/DC have lived up to their legacy, either, or maybe even tried to -- those albums with Bon are just way way way more weird and rhythmically grooving and hilarious than anything they've done since.

xhuxk, Wednesday, 30 September 2009 20:49 (fifteen years ago)

I never change the channel on a '70s Aerosmith song

Well, maybe if they played "Come Together," or "Remember (Walking In The Sand)."

Aerosmith definitely > KISS

Nate Carson, Monday, 5 October 2009 01:48 (fifteen years ago)

As far as post-Permanent Vacation Aerosmith goes, I rather like "What It Takes" and "The Other Side." Aerosmith really should've made an album in the late 1980s and early '90s that went toe to toe with Tesla and Heartbreak Station-era Cinderella.

QuantumNoise, Monday, 5 October 2009 03:52 (fifteen years ago)

i'd rep for about half of Pump and Get a Grip.

Oh come on.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 5 October 2009 23:02 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, this is stupidly lopsided. I voted for AC/DC, so it's partly my fault, but the results kind of make me wish I didn't.

Btw, George Smith has said that Honking On Bobo from 2004 is a good album. I should probably listen to it sometime.

xhuxk, Monday, 5 October 2009 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

Haha, biggest landslide I've seen! I'd bet that "1970s Aerosmith vs. '70s AC/DC" would be a lot closer.
