Brio, Friday, 2 October 2009 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

Needles and Pins.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 2 October 2009 17:24 (fifteen years ago)

California Sun. End of the Century is my favorite record of theirs but the BILY cover is not that great

the taint of Macca is strong (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 2 October 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago)

Surfin' Bird - Joey's voice is a gift from the godz

Bird Bird Bird. The Bird is the Word.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 2 October 2009 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

Needles and Pins was my first thought before I even looked at the options.

I thought I could make it work because you look a bit like a man (aldo), Friday, 2 October 2009 19:40 (fifteen years ago)

Let's Dance

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 2 October 2009 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

"do you wanna dance?" -- specifically, the it's alive version. one minute 39 seconds.

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Friday, 2 October 2009 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I forgot C'Mon Let's Go - the Ritchie Valens/McCoys one from R&R High School. It's w/ the Paley Bros. singing though, so maybe shouldn't really count.

Brio, Friday, 2 October 2009 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

California Sun. Makes me think of listening to the Johnny Walker show on Radio Luxembourg, which, in the late 70's/early 80's, was recorded in San Francisco or L.A IIRC. He was covering the kind of 'Love and Rockets' (the comic) punk and proto-hardcore scene there, and it just seemed like so much more fun than anything going on in my corner of the UK. (And of course, he'd throw in the odd Ramones number - I think I heard this one there, and it seemed perfect.)

Soukesian, Friday, 2 October 2009 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

OT, but "I Don't Wanna Grow UP" is a devastating late classic:

I can't wait until the post 1980 poll so I can vote vote vote for "Time Has Come Today"

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 2 October 2009 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

Fuck, yeah, let's do it!

Soukesian, Friday, 2 October 2009 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

"Do you Wanna Dance," though really only because it's the best pop song, not because the Ramones do something with it they don't with the others. Of course, "Surfin' Bird" is writ the largest, sui generis, and therefore only playable by the Trashmen themselves.

Michael Train, Saturday, 3 October 2009 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think there's room for the Ramones' Surfin' Bird when the Trashmen and Cramps versions exist. I'm going for California Sun.

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 3 October 2009 01:18 (fifteen years ago)

Anything but "Baby, I Love You."

"do you wanna dance?" -- specifically, the it's alive version. one minute 39 seconds.

Aw, I love Joey's gurgles on Baby I Love You. But Do You Wanna Dance is so amazing.

I'm a hot lady in my bedroom and I need a Lindstrøm (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 3 October 2009 07:52 (fifteen years ago)

Like I said on another thread, the covers are my least favourite tracks on the first three albums. Whereas "Needles and Pins" is the only one I prefer to the original, so that.

For me, they'll never top "Time Has Come Today" as far as covers go.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Suggest Banned (Myonga Vön Bontee), Sunday, 4 October 2009 08:07 (fifteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

Baby I Love You is my favorite song up here but their version isn't so hot, kind of missing the ethereal creepiness of the original. Surfin' Bird it is.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 02:38 (fifteen years ago)

Never understood why they even bothered with "California Sun," after this; they couldn't come close, so why try?

Voting "Surfin' Bird."

xhuxk, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 02:50 (fifteen years ago)

Ha my reasoning is exactly the opposite! Voted "California Sun," always found any cover of "Surfin' Bird" to be pointless.

we are normal and we want our freedom (Abbott), Wednesday, 28 October 2009 19:29 (fifteen years ago)

totally agree... and even if you were itching for a cover of surfin' bird the cramps released a better one six months earlier on Gravest Hits

Brio, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 19:45 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Bizarre: I know all these apart from the winner. Is it really that good?

Mark G, Thursday, 29 October 2009 08:07 (fifteen years ago)

get one Road to Ruin quick!

the not-fun one (Ioannis), Thursday, 29 October 2009 09:41 (fifteen years ago)
