For some reason, this is the D-Plan album I seem to listen to most, despite the fact that I know that Change is a better album overall... when reading about them, this never seems to come up. Thoughts?

what I thought a while ago. I still agree with it I think.

so there must've been at least something good about the dave matthews band then eh?

I think this means that more people are dancing at plan shows now.

maybe it just means that they're building a bigger and bigger underground fan base and are ready to break

This is the one I heard first and I didn't like it. Sold it, in fact. I only have the last two but they improved a lot as a band, I think. Melodies, arrangements, lyrics, everything.

ok, so maybe a serious attempt at this thread here maybe? ok. josh's link summed up a few things well. also, the 2nd half crushes the first (well, like all their albums, except Is Terrified, but especially this one).

If I Don't Write is great - almost an endurance trial of just milking one slightly interesting rhythm pattern over and over and some kind of bland lyrics, but a couple particular lines and one of their first really effective choruses make it a standout. Rusty's beautiful also. i'm forever taunted by Travis's threats to resurrect Fantastic! live. there are a lot of long-dormant songs from those first 2 albums that would be great for them to dig up and reinvent a little.

still, it sounds like a demo compared to the other records, but if you get used to that bratty vibe and thin sound, they did what they were doing back then pretty well.

I must be retarted.
