Bands that really need a best-of

Whenever a band that released two albums has a best-of compilation released, I think about the great bands with bigger catalogs that lack a comprehensive, career-spanning overview. Who needs one? I nominate a couple of bands that have been on my mind lately:

Miracle Legion / Mark Mulcahy
Blackeyed Susans

Who else?

tbh i can't think of that many bands i love with lengthy careers who don't have at least one compilation

for against and the cannanes are two bands that would turn out a stone cold incredible single disc.. maybe the apartments..

hood are a band who could really use some distillation

low would make a great one too

Robert Pollard's non-GBV work would condense to an astounding 2 discs.

AC/DC

This is sort of a Pollard best-of, right?

Though I love their albums, I think a Flaming Lips Best of the Warner Bros. years is something people would enjoy.

I don't know, man. Listening to "Frogs" and "Pilot Can At the Queer of God" next to "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" and "Free Radicals" would get pretty depressing at how much their songwriting has gone down the tubes.

Disco Inferno? (do they have one, officially?)

Missy Elliot still doesn't have a US released best of.

Brad Paisley (esp for his first four albums)

I've always thought the Foo Fighters could do with one. I just went and looked and it's coming out next month.

Of course, instead of buying greatest hits albums (in cases where they don't exist), I usually just download the individual tracks off of iTunes and rename them under one album.

There is no best of Husker Du, which is pretty weird amirite?

Obscured by clowns (NickB), Thursday, 8 October 2009 11:26 (fifteen years ago)

Is there a Sonic Youth one? Dunno, haven't paid much attention.

Sonic Youth have two--one for the SST years and a recent Starbucks one.

Mark - thanks for that tip about Pollard, I missed that. Allmusic kinda skewers it, though.

Yeah, I do that too. NickB beat me to mentioning Husker Du! There's no proper best-of for them, though there's a solid live overview. I compiled my own comp and love it.

Whoa, just found this post. Miracle Legion was the first thing that came to mind for me, too.
