Um, wanted to earn some money for writing a song? Knew it was going to be a profitable soundtrack and wanted to cash in?

Well the song is new and was specifically created for the movie so I think Thom Yorke did have a say about the whole thing.

really doubt he wrote it specifically for the movie, seems like he's recording a bunch of similar sounding solo songs these days and any one of them could have been used for this.

although i didn't really listen to the lyrics, maybe they are about abstinence vampires?

also: a striking number of good songs from the 1990s emerged from soundtracks to mediocre or bad movies.

(as my aging cassette collection can tell you.)
