I remember watching this as a kid in the 80s, or to be accurate watching the title sequence and never actually watching the show :) .... I was just curious of suggestions as to other music that sounds like this theme.

in general look for stuff released between 1984 and 1992 that's described as "new beat" or "electronic body music"

And it's just been announced that Denzel Washington is starring in an upcoming film adaptation of it, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Drive.

i always thought it had a zappa "jazz from hell" vibe. well, maybe a cross between that & the theme tune from "the bill". Sadly the TV version isn't exactly the same as the one on the "equaliser & other cliffhangers lp", but the rest of that is pretty awesome & revisits the recurrent themes used for various stings (a-ha!)& incidental music from the show.copeland's other worthwhile soundtracky bits:see no evil hear no evil - sadly no cd or lp available but gene wilder & r. pryor milk blind man deaf man comedy for all it's worth while a pre-usual suspects spacey hams it up as a mustachioed bad guy."noahs' ark" with darth vader reading some old horseshit over the top of it."the rhythmatist" has some pretty grooving klunky fusionoid fairlight jams as well as neat-o mouthsingin collaborations w/ ray lema.orchestralli - cd/dvd set. italian orchestra w/ stu on drums does stu's fusionoid fairlight jams pretty rockingly.rapa nui - not so much - too many pan poops on this.the lion son - some discovery channel soundtrack w orchestra - surprisingly good.wall street / talk radio. more laid back than the equaliser, but good.all the spyro the dragon playstation game soundtracks - excellent - there were some sort of nefarious rips knocking about years agoavoid anything where he's "jamming" with lesley claypole and terry anaesthesia because it sounds awful. similarly unless a slightly prog fusion reba mcentire is your bag steer clear of "animal logic". i think i remember "silent fall" being passable if inobtrusive

oh and "ben hur live" is truly awful - like the sort of 3rd gen rip-off of j.lo duca's xena music you would hear at a museum / madam tussauds "ancient rome" show
