So I was on the Hellride Music forum reading about obscure heavy psych, and someone mentioned how much they liked the self-titled Jacob's Creek album released on Epic in 68.
So I went on Soulseek and downloaded a 9-track album attributed to said band.
But there's no tags in the mp3s. I go to find the track listing, and I note that the Jacob's Creek album had 12 songs on it.
After further research, I find the real Jacob's Creek album on a blog. The 9-track album I downloaded is an instant mystery!
Either there were two bands named Jacob's Creek, or this mystery Soulseek album was misfiled, and since there's no tags, that's entirely possible.
I used MusicBrainz Picard to try and identify the tagless mp3s, and it came up with nothing.
I've fallen hard for the mystery band. Weird, hazy, reverberating psych. Sounds like a private press release by a US band. Strange lyrics about stupid little creatures and being alone. Track 8 is an awkward jazzy instrumental. There's one song where the hook is a guy grunting and groaning. Seriously! Odd proto-prog and jazzy melodic leanings on a couple of tracks, too. Which places this between 69 and 72 in my mind.
Anyhow, anyone up to sleuthing? Here's a link to the mystery album!

No worries. I tried to glean the song titles, but had no luck looking them up on All Music or Gracenote. That's what made me think this might be some obscure private press album.

WOOO! Gott Punch knocks it out of the park. Thanks so much! Weird thing is, I frequent the Ezhevika Fields blog (where it's currently posted) and for some reason, I never checked it out. I guess I need to start spending more time with the private press stuff.
Thanks so much!!!

no problem.
i just found out that the acid archives - the site that, combined with my hella-faulty memory, helped me figure out what album it was - has been pulled off the internet. which really, really sucks because it was an awesome resource for people into weird, off-brand psych albums. hope it comes back.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I browsed through that site. I've spent the last couple of years digging through obscure psych, but now I'm realizing that I was playing it pretty safe. That proto doom thread got me into the hard psych I had missed out on. Now I'm wondering what I've been missing with the private press stuff. I never get tired of this stuff!
