Recommendation: Girl Group Box Set

I just bought a 3CD set called Chapel Of Love And Other Great Girl Group Gems (HMV sale at £8.99). I haven't listened to it yet, but I want to recommend it anyway because it has Groucho's daughter Melinda Marx on it, and groups called things like Kelli & the Kittens and Terry & the Tunisians, and best of all a song called "Shoop Shoop De Doop Rama Lama Ding Dong Yeah Yeah Yeah".

And about a third of the songs seem to be by Barry & Greenwich, so it's bound to be wonderful.

Really?!?!? Ooh, this sounds exciting! Probably no Spector content, though, is there? He tends to control such rights a bit tyranically...

Is it all original recordings.. I tend to avoid these cheapo comp box sets as many seem to be those terrible "These songs have been re- recorded by one or more of the original line-up to preserve sound quality"

These things piss me off so much. Have you ever heard Lesley Gore's 80's compilation remake of it's my party? Sacrilidge.

Rant over.

No Spector productions (a couple with his name in the writing credits - and you all need Back To Mono, the Spector set, one of the greatest box sets ever), but it is all original artists (you are right to be wary! I am too). I bought others by them (Castle Pulse) at the same time, in fact, at even lower prices in this sale (£3.99 each for 3CD sets): Rock The Joint - the Roots & Branches of Rock 'n' Roll, The Legendary Sun Records Story, plus volume two of same. These are every bit as good. If you are within reach of an HMV on Oxford St, London, I recommend checking out their sale (I've no idea if they're having sales elsewhere). There are a bunch of 10CD jazz box sets at £11 or £12 each - I bought Billie Holiday and Art Tatum ones - and an excellent Wynonie Harris 4CD set that was about the same price, as well as thousands of individual CDs, obviously. Perhaps I should stress that I am just a consumer, not connected in any way with any of these companies.

'Original artists' does not imply 'original recordings,' Captain.

My old pal Mr Pedantic is visiting us. Say hello to Mr Pedantic, children.

Yes, all original recordings. This is a classy production, not one of those "we dug up a Shirelle and flung it together with some fifth rate session hacks" jobs.

two years pass...
Martin (or anyone else who has this compilation), which are the standout tracks? And would you be willing to make it available on Ssk anytime soon?
