Okay, I'll be completely honest... I had no idea Michael Franti & Spearhead were even still a thing. Does he have a hit right now?

There are only like 3 songs here that don't suck.

Voted Shakira.

it was when Curt1s found himself voting for "Hotel Room Service" that he realized pop music was forcing his standards irrevocably downwards

either fabo or taylor

I'm tempted to go Katy Perry here, even though that single is way old (and even though she seems to be a terrible person). May go Shakira, tho.

I have only heard the Taylor Swift one, thanks to kanye.

post youtube: gah, autotune is all over these. i like "She Wolf". "Battlefield" is decent. the pitbull song is a pile of shit even without autotune.

imo this at least has a lot more to choose from than Now That's What I Call A Music Poll! Vol. 31 (US)

my favorite is either "Obsessed" or "I Gotta Feeling," but i have time for a few others too

australia.baby.train.escape (some dude), Saturday, 17 October 2009 01:39 (fifteen years ago)

Wait a second...Michael Franti and Spearhead? He has a pop hit?

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 17 October 2009 01:50 (fifteen years ago)

Taylor, easy. God I hate "Whatcha Say" so much. So fucking much. I got enough of the song it samples when it was all over The O.C., never needed to hear it again let alone every goddamn time I turn on the radio.

"Love Drunk" is a good example of how 'nananananananananana!' can save anything

this has some powerhouse songs, id luv 2 see re-polled results tbh

johnny crunch, Saturday, 27 March 2010 03:55 (fifteen years ago)

one month passes...

Yeah, I know it took me a while to admit that "I Gotta Feeling" is great.. "Sexy Chick" I loved from minute one though, it seems really underrated here.

Really revived this just cause I can't find a thread that gets into "Knock You Down" and I think it's a pretty nice song - - the narrative is maybe a little garbled but it's basically cute. I sang it at karaoke tonight and the line-by-line format really adds something in the sense that it makes Kanye's verse extra stilted and awkward, which is appropriate to his character as the nerdy schlub who loses Keri to smooth Ne-Yo. The only big problem with the song is that Hilson's verse is totally forgettable which, y'know, she's the one these dudes are fighting over so she should probably come into focus a little more.

But maybe I'm just hankering for more duets where the singers actually have really clear-cut characters, etc.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 10 May 2010 06:43 (fifteen years ago)

i've really warmed to "down" once i realized that its really easy to pretend that it's a pre-punch chris brown song, and not a song sung by someone who is nearly 30

J0rdan S., Monday, 10 May 2010 06:46 (fifteen years ago)

god i could write a book about the things that irritate me in that song, or even just the Kanye verse, from the singular/plural muddle of "the head of football teams" to the pause-worthy "you should leave your boyfriend now, I'mma ask him"

cozen frustard (some dude), Monday, 10 May 2010 10:58 (fifteen years ago)

this might have been mentioned in another thread but Bob Mercer, who brought this series to the US, just died

I like that he basically rhymes "glasses" with "glasses" but slips "ashes" in the middle there in the hopes that you won't notice.
