Inspired by Neil S's complete lack of knowledge re the achievements of jungle/D&B in the beats department on the Underworld Poll thread, here's we compile all our favourite, most crazy jungle beats in youtube form - obv. the emphasis of this is different to the existing thread for youtube clips of awesome ardkore and early jungle.

Let's start with some DJ Hype. Absolutely T for tremendous!

This thread has sorted out my Sunday listening plans already!

This obscurity is a bit of a private obsession of mine. Everyone should check it:

I already posted this in the other thread, but let's put it here too. One of the most ridiculously awesome rhythm tracks ever, courtesy of Soul Slinger and T Power (with vocals by MC Det).

Another great tune where it's all in the drums.

This must be Photek's scariest beat ever. I wish he'd made his debut album in 1995:

Can't find it on Youtube, but this is maybe my favourite jungle break of all time:

Sureshot - The Kill Off

(I'm trying to post only tracks from 1995/96 because of the Second Toughest in the Infants comparison.)

Tuomas, Sunday, 18 October 2009 11:58 (fifteen years ago)

(The real madness kicks in around the 4 minute mark.)

(This one's a bit newer, from 1998 I think.)

Tuomas, Sunday, 18 October 2009 12:05 (fifteen years ago)

Stan the tunes you're posting are great but a little bit more straightforward (in that 00s way) than I had in mind for this thread. Looking for really ostentatious stuff here.

Tim F, Sunday, 18 October 2009 12:06 (fifteen years ago)

ok, you're right, they're more tech-step than jungle-based - sorry!

StanM, Sunday, 18 October 2009 12:09 (fifteen years ago)

Tim, I've never heard of The Dub Technicians, but I'm really enjoying the tune you posted, awesome break!

A bit harsh! How about this?

Neil S, Sunday, 18 October 2009 12:20 (fifteen years ago)

Here's another brilliant break I couldn't find on Youtube:

Dwarf Electro - Fear + Loathing

(I first heard it on a comp where all the other tunes were more mellow and chilled out, but when this one came on, I was like, "Holy shit, what a beat!")

Tuomas, Sunday, 18 October 2009 12:26 (fifteen years ago)

(thanks for the beats Tim)

yeah I should have backed away slowly shouldn't I! Ah well it's only the internet...

Neil S, Sunday, 18 October 2009 12:29 (fifteen years ago)

Wow, that Dub Technicians track is great and I mean GREAT, never heard it before.

In danger of posting entirety of Jungle Massive 2 compilation, as the tape that made me fall in love with jungle... so many great tracks on there. but this is possibly closer to the tricksy beat-cutting angle aimed for on this thread than the sublime but pitter-pattery "Dance of the Sarooes (Nookie VIP remix)", and youtube's audio compression is not doing "The Sign" (Ray Keith remix) many favours so, here is Aladdin - "We Enter" (Heavenly remix):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8RvY9r93a4

apologies if this is too much for the "existing thread for youtube clips of awesome ardkore and early jungle" (where is that, please?) and not enough for this thread.

ein fisch schwimmt im wasser · fisch im wasser durstig (a passing spacecadet), Sunday, 18 October 2009 13:10 (fifteen years ago)

Apologies Neil - I meant that more as "here is a good work that we can all do today to help out a fellow ilxor..."

Tim F, Sunday, 18 October 2009 18:16 (fifteen years ago)

Another obscure 1994 Strictly Underground (most underrated jungle label ever?) release with simply awesome drums:

more photek, but i just listened to this earlier today. kinda crazy how you only hear that timpani-ish part for the first couple minutes, and it starts on the & of 2

also, this is recent but one of my favorite beats:

I remember I was literally shocked when I heard this tune... Previously I'd associated Aquasky with the jazzy/atmospheric end of d'n'b, so I definitely wasn't expecting anything this hard from them. It's a banger nevertheless.

Tuomas, Sunday, 18 October 2009 22:56 (fifteen years ago)

Never heard that, it's cool. Reminds me of Acen's DnB stuff.

His skin is eroding. His suckers have divots. (chap), Sunday, 18 October 2009 23:00 (fifteen years ago)

It's a bit later tune, from 1999 I think. Love the bass sounds in that tune. Aquasky released a double album (also called Bodyshock) worth of harsh techstep like that, it's kinda too much as a whole, but it has some choice tunes like that one.

Tuomas, Sunday, 18 October 2009 23:05 (fifteen years ago)

"existing thread for youtube clips of awesome ardkore and early jungle" (where is that, please?)

The YouTube old skool hardcore/early jungle thread

Any excuse to promote my own thread! (Beware, it's a slow loader)

two months pass...

never forget, gone before its time

This part of the sentence is even dumber. (lukas), Tuesday, 29 December 2009 02:21 (fifteen years ago)

Sorry if I'm turning this thread into one big Photek love-fest, but this track (specifically the way it gets going around 1:40) is IMO his most perfect moment.
