take all this with a grain of salt because im a certified unrepentant lindstrom stan.
a dozen listens in and i genuinely think this is as strong, if not stronger, than WYGIGT or II--in totally different ways, though. those of you (jergins) turned off by masturbatory jams will dig on this, i think--much tighter and more formal than his last couple (the magnificent not included), but not without classic lindstrom wooze. lot of moroder/summer in this (duh) and i think also post-chic edwards & rogers.
high points for me: this badass sort of drunken gina x stomper called "lovesick" (actually sort of reminds me of that NERD song 'lapdance,' lol) and the album closer "high and low" which is totally reminiscent of thousands of songs that ive heard but couldnt name right now (almost like a funkier sally shapiro? but less italo? includes guitar solo btw)
― Bobby Wo (max), Sunday, 18 October 2009 16:03 (fifteen years ago)
OK, OK, OK... I will check it out. Because Lindstrom totally blows my horn and the idea of his schtick combined with female vocals would be just about my idea of heaven - but it all comes down to how much of the noodling has been cut down on because I'm an unrepentant spaceprog-noodle fan.
― satsuma laroux (Masonic Boom), Sunday, 18 October 2009 16:23 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i kate id guess that youll be way less into this than WYGIGT or II based on what i know about your taste and the reasons you like lindstrom--this is way more disco; like i said the reference points here are more donna summers shit w/ moroder and 80s edwards and rogers than vangelis and gottsching (notwithstanding the fact that one of the songs is a vangelis cover)
still id be interested to hear what you think about. just b/c its not as noodly as the other stuff doesnt mean that its totally free of noodle--and its still sort of sloppy in that purposeful lindstrom way.
― Bobby Wo (max), Sunday, 18 October 2009 16:29 (fifteen years ago)
Hey! I know that I'm originally a spacerock/kraut/drone head, and I came to Lindstrom from that angle, but I'm certainly not adverse to a little disco, especially of the more cosmic Italo end. The only thing I've got is that Music In My Mind track that was on the Smalltown Supersound On Fire comp from Plan B. Which I like, but I'd really like a lot more if it was about 3 times longer and went off into phased-out-heaven.
I mean, I hugely love girlypop, so the idea of Lindstrom doing a take on 3 minute girlypop disco songs is really kind of intriguing. I will chase down more of it tomorrow at work with a good connection.
― satsuma laroux (Masonic Boom), Sunday, 18 October 2009 16:40 (fifteen years ago)
Has this leaked? I read it's not coming out until jan. 2010.
― Jacob Sanders, Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:23 (fifteen years ago)
promo copies went out last week so its probably only a matter of time
― Bobby Wo (max), Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago)
To be honest, I've been wanting Lindstrom to drop a straight dancefloor-orientated cosmic disco album for some time now and I'm therefore really looking forward to this.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:29 (fifteen years ago)
Does this sounds anything like Run, the last song off the first L&PT album? That has always been my favorite song my them. I am excited to hear this.
― Jacob Sanders, Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:33 (fifteen years ago)
Oh, I thought he tweeted that he'd put the whole album up on their MySpace, but maybe that's clips or something.
― satsuma laroux (Masonic Boom), Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:35 (fifteen years ago)
But, to be perfectly honest, I'd be happy if he just made a straight-up cover of Steve Hillage's Green album but, erm, that's just me.
― satsuma laroux (Masonic Boom), Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:38 (fifteen years ago)
(I would say something about offering to be his Miquette Giraudy in this project, but, erm, I've learned to keep my lustful outbursts to myself on this board)
― satsuma laroux (Masonic Boom), Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
yeah jacob run is a definite antecedent to what hes doing here--the song wouldnt sound out of place on the album, even if it is a little less 'disco' than the rest of it
― Bobby Wo (max), Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
Now I'm really excited about this!!
― Jacob Sanders, Sunday, 18 October 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago)
I'm really glad she's changed her name, mostly because I wasn't sure how to pronounce 'Solale' and I'm relieved I no longer have to try.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 18 October 2009 19:16 (fifteen years ago)
fyi you pronounce it "christabelle"
― Bobby Wo (max), Sunday, 18 October 2009 19:17 (fifteen years ago)
I like the name "Solale" better. Way more mysterious.
― threesome dude (The Reverend), Sunday, 18 October 2009 19:40 (fifteen years ago)
Really cannot wait to hear this, I think it's got the potential to be the best album Lindstrom's been involved with.
― Roger Sánchez Broto (vain_bowers), Sunday, 18 October 2009 20:46 (fifteen years ago)
how's it compare to "let it happen"?
― moonship journey to baja, Monday, 19 October 2009 00:19 (fifteen years ago)
yeah count me in the camp that prefers Run and Let's Practise to WYGIGT-style noodle, i'm stoked to hear this
― jabba hands, Monday, 19 October 2009 00:29 (fifteen years ago)
xp the vangelis original or the version they already did?
theres a version of their cover on the album--not the same as the one thats already been released as lindstrom & solale. i prefer the earlier, solale version, but maybe just cuz it hews closer to the vangelis original, which id take over both versions of the lindstrom cover
― Bobby Wo (max), Monday, 19 October 2009 00:29 (fifteen years ago)
the cover
― moonship journey to baja, Monday, 19 October 2009 00:35 (fifteen years ago)
the version on 'real life is no cool' is a) shorter and b) sort of more aggressive; the synths are foregrounded on a way theyre not on the OG (at least the one ive heard) and it doesnt have that great sort of bubbling/boiling over quality that the 9-minute "solale" version has
at least thats what i think--havent listened to the long version in a minute
― Bobby Wo (max), Monday, 19 October 2009 00:35 (fifteen years ago)
I'm also in the camp that wants to hear more of a straight-up disco album. Something like a bunch of tracks similar to "Let's Practice" would be amazing!

WELL YOURE IN LUCK MY FRIEND
― Bobby Wo (max), Monday, 19 October 2009 01:21 (fifteen years ago)
Excited about this, I thought (the original version of the cover of) "Let It Happen" was fabulous and like it more than anything on WYGIGT/II.
― Tim F, Monday, 19 October 2009 01:27 (fifteen years ago)
yall i hope im not blowing this up for u guys too much but i think this is FIRE as they say, it is the REAL DEAL so u are right to be excited!!

this sounds good:
There will also be a second 12" with Baby Can`t Stop remixes from The Idjut Boys and Prins Thomas.
― mizzell, Monday, 19 October 2009 02:22 (fifteen years ago)
baby can't stop is another fave of mine, those synth-brass stabs are so rad, just the most perfect split btw obviously synthy and sort of brassy
― Bobby Wo (max), Monday, 19 October 2009 02:25 (fifteen years ago)
lookin forward to this one, bigtime.
― racist of the falling leaves (haitch), Monday, 19 October 2009 02:50 (fifteen years ago)
i wonder if 'baby can't stop' is the untitled demo i heard in a mix about two years ago... really sparse apreggiated synth line going up and down?

OK, I have just found that L&PT track "Run" on Spotify - and wow, OK, I'm going to start anticipating the hell out of this album if it is in the vein of this. The big heavy stomping bassline plus the wibbly wubbly arpeggiated synths plus drifty female vocals - if it goes in this direction then this could be my new favourite thing ever.
― satsuma laroux (Masonic Boom), Monday, 19 October 2009 09:39 (fifteen years ago)
OK, and to make this even sweeter, there's an Aeroplane remix on the MySpace...

the Aeroplane dub remix is even better!
― Kaiser Size, Monday, 19 October 2009 12:04 (fifteen years ago)
"keep it up" is such my jam. reminds me of the donna summer version of "state of independence"
― psychgawsple, Monday, 19 October 2009 21:09 (fifteen years ago)
This is amazing. So sharp and chunky and R&B! Final track is perfect.
― Tim F, Monday, 26 October 2009 09:06 (fifteen years ago)
Single out today. With Aeroplane remix. (rolls over and waggles arms and legs in air)
However, I haven't listened to it yet as, erm, I'm listening to the Fever Ray RA podcast first.
― Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Monday, 26 October 2009 11:30 (fifteen years ago)
Oh god.... Baby Can't Stop (Aeroplane Dub Remix) - WHY OH WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE LEFT THE VOCALS IN?!?!?
if they had, this would be, like, remix of the year...
― Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Monday, 26 October 2009 12:10 (fifteen years ago)
I'm pretty sure the version I have, which has been knocking round since the start of the year, has vocals on it. I'll need to check though.
― Matt DC, Monday, 26 October 2009 12:16 (fifteen years ago)
yeah it does have vox
― lex pretend, Monday, 26 October 2009 12:17 (fifteen years ago)
If you have that Aeroplane (ha ha, I just totally subconsciously typoed Aerolplane oops) remix with vocals, I'm a-coming round your house to pry it from your cold dead hands. ;-)
― Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Monday, 26 October 2009 12:17 (fifteen years ago)
i want to know whether solale or christabelle is her real name (or maybe one is her middle name?). when she went under solale i always used to type lindstrøm & solange by mistake
― lex pretend, Monday, 26 October 2009 12:18 (fifteen years ago)
Funnily enough, I don't actually think either is her real name, but I can't remember where I read that.
― Strawberry Letter 22 (Masonic Boom), Monday, 26 October 2009 12:19 (fifteen years ago)

― mizzell, Monday, 26 October 2009 15:39 (fifteen years ago)
Only heard the non-aeroplane version today, anyone else think this might actually do OK, sales-wise? Probably not, but it is a lot more catchy and poppy than some of the stuff that's done well that I've heard recently
― Roger Sánchez Broto (vain_bowers), Monday, 26 October 2009 17:42 (fifteen years ago)
the Aeroplane vocal mix kind of annoys me because when it does that little flourish at the end it feels like it's going to leap up to a higher level of awesomeness again (as it has already done four or five times), but then it just stops. A very minor complaint, I guess it's tough to know where to stop when you can just keep making it better and better forever.
― FC Tom Tomsk Club (Merdeyeux), Monday, 26 October 2009 18:00 (fifteen years ago)
wow, the American release date for this (according to amazon) is January 2010! Both the single and the Aeroplane remix are ace!!

Chaka Khan, Sinnamon, Carol Williams, Katie Kissoon, Sylvia Striplin, Karen Silver...it totally invokes that post-disco diva with producer (with a synthesizer) tradition that informs not just that early-80s Paradise Garage sound but that era of R&B, pop and boogie.
― beta blog, Friday, 26 February 2010 17:47 (fifteen years ago)

I'm trying to work out what it is about this album that has prevented me from ever really loving it this year. It might be Christabelle's vocals, but not entirely because the songs where she's on it she is totally on it, maybe it just doesn't stay up in the stratosphere enough for my liking, and the two tracks that follow Baby Can't Stop feel a bit half-finished.
