Leaving aside music considerations, which of these will work best as a stamp?

Daniel Giraffe, Monday, 19 October 2009 12:59 (fifteen years ago)

Screamadelica seems to stand out the most at that size

modescalator (blueski), Monday, 19 October 2009 13:04 (fifteen years ago)

Unknown Pleasures might have looked cool

Number None, Monday, 19 October 2009 15:52 (fifteen years ago)

im sure some british artists wouldnt mind this sort of coverage.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 19 October 2009 15:55 (fifteen years ago)

artists as in painters etc

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 19 October 2009 15:55 (fifteen years ago)

The Division Bell has a horrible cover, which was anachronistically old-fashioned when it came out in 1987. Led Zep 4 is designed as a gatefold. It seems a bit weird to honour a design classic by shrinking it to a fraction of the size then discarding half the image.

"Cake by Delia Smith" is a cool credit though.

Tubular Bells...in stamp form!

existential eggs (Abbott), Monday, 19 October 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

Power, Corruption and Lies looks best methinks.

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 19 October 2009 18:00 (fifteen years ago)

Should I bitch for the inclusion of Coldplay? Both the album and the artwork aren't particulary special imho.

Moka, Monday, 19 October 2009 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

when it came out in 1987+7

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 19 October 2009 18:25 (fifteen years ago)

Coldplay are only included for the thickies

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 19 October 2009 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

^lol. And then lol again.

No White Album?

Ziggy Stardust looks worst small.

staggerlee, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 01:23 (fifteen years ago)

I agree that Ziggy Stardust looks crap. Couldn't they have chosen Low or Station To Station or, well, most of the others?

Although it's a bit of a pain to see the likes of Coldplay honoured in this way, think of how much worse this selection could've been.

Nice to see Peter Saville get some recognition.

Why have they made them look like actual record sleeves, i.e. with some vinyl sticking out the side? I think just the pic would have been best. Also (as someone has said already) the Pink Floyd choice is very odd.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:22 (fifteen years ago)

For those who can't be bothered to click the article at the top.

think bowie becomes only the second living non-royal to appear on a british stamp

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:27 (fifteen years ago)

Paul Simonon not dead AFAIK

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:31 (fifteen years ago)

duh, always thought that was strummer

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:35 (fifteen years ago)

(not a clash fan)

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:36 (fifteen years ago)

Anyone know if the man carrying the sticks is dead?

krakow, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:38 (fifteen years ago)

i believe he is on the stairway to heaven

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:39 (fifteen years ago)

that's the floyd cover they choose? There's nothing more iconic than that one?

dan selzer, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:45 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, that's ridiculous, you can say what you like about Dark Side (and many here will) but you can't argue with the iconic status of its cover

anagram, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:47 (fifteen years ago)

There must be some reason, meaning legal or bureaucratic shenanigans behind the scenes, I presume. I can't imagine that would really be the first choice.

krakow, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:52 (fifteen years ago)

I think that "Living Non-Royal" thing is wayyy over by now?

Mark G, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:55 (fifteen years ago)

(e.g. the Beatles' series, and so on)

Mark G, Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:55 (fifteen years ago)

ya rly dark side and wywh *just a little* more iconic.

clash choice is odd, in that it's a pastiche.

same w. new order, rly.

they ought to do 'country life'

Patriarchy Oppression Machine (history mayne), Thursday, 7 January 2010 13:59 (fifteen years ago)

can't believe they couldn't find a copy of London Calling without ringwear on it for their shtoopid stamps

ramadaan muhammad asalaamica rasoul allah supana watallah (jk), Thursday, 7 January 2010 14:01 (fifteen years ago)

1) True
2) Not really, just the lettering
3) PSav complained that the back of the sleeve was intrinsic, now it's just some 'nice flowers'
4) people b lickin the one edge tho.

Mark G, Thursday, 7 January 2010 14:02 (fifteen years ago)

It's also missing the "Pay no more than" sticker. (xpost)

Mark G, Thursday, 7 January 2010 14:03 (fifteen years ago)

pcl looks most stamp like but the inside/back diskette cover would have been more iconic

quite like the tubular bells one

as much as i fucking loath blur their album art always did look like exerts from the great big book of british nostalbia stamp collection so it's appropriate

don't recognise the first two at all so not as iconic as they reckon

Karen Tregaskin, Thursday, 7 January 2010 14:07 (fifteen years ago)

would it have killed them to do one (or more!) lp by a non-all-white-males act?

Patriarchy Oppression Machine (history mayne), Thursday, 7 January 2010 14:13 (fifteen years ago)

poor gillian gilbert

Patriarchy Oppression Machine (history mayne), Thursday, 7 January 2010 14:16 (fifteen years ago)

gillian was a man who used a woman's name -- sike.

Patriarchy Oppression Machine (history mayne), Thursday, 7 January 2010 14:16 (fifteen years ago)

gillian gilbert looks like a girl who knows her way around a 303

Karen Tregaskin, Thursday, 7 January 2010 14:21 (fifteen years ago)
