i'll take 1970 "1970" stooges over 1969 "1969" stooges. the year and the song.

scott seward, Monday, 19 October 2009 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

only cuz they were that much stoogier a year later.

scott seward, Monday, 19 October 2009 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

1969. But I'm the weirdo that likes the debut better than Fun House.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 19 October 2009 15:19 (fifteen years ago)

1970

I love both but '1969' has more sentimental pull.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Monday, 19 October 2009 16:17 (fifteen years ago)

1969: I like drugs.
1970: Drugs like me.

1969.

1970, my favorite song of theirs.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

I like how hard Iggy is trying to convince himself that he feels aw-right in 1970, despite all appearances to the contrary. Classic example of the unreliable narrator.

Brio, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 16:04 (fifteen years ago)

Iggy feeling alright:

1970

My first ever Stooges LP, bought in 1988, was this:

http://www.discogs.com/image/R-609094-1220428678.jpeg
http://www.discogs.com/Stooges-No-Fun/master/158195

It was a single-LP compilation of "The Stooges" and "Funhouse". The first song on the LP was 1969, the final song 1970 (a slightly shortened edit).

I ended up loving Side B over Side A and the very last song more than the very first.

1970, my favorite song of theirs.

― kornrulez6969,

You're both OTM!

Always wished they'd written a "1973" for Raw Power.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

So, System, what do you think? Can you vote for something that challenges your existence? (Unix time started at 01-01-1970 so that other song, if real, would have existed before the beginning of time. And that does not compute.)

I kinda like the Damned version of 1970 better than either of these. Not that I dislike the Stooges one iota.

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 08:36 (fifteen years ago)

Tough choice, but I voted for 1970. It's the repeated "I FEEL AWRIGHT!!!" that sells it. Also it's the song playing during the infamous "that's peanut butter!" concert incident.

"1970" for the sax part that marks the transition to the apocalyptic heart of Fun House, through the end of the album. But the bored malice of the wah-wah'ed solo on "1969" makes this a tough choice for me.
