Compilations and samplers

Where does one get these? And I don't mean tapes that people make for one another, I mean the discs that people know in common: (sub)genre, or label specific. Do they come with magazines? Do you order them? Do you buy them in record shops? I know this sounds stupid, but I honestly don't know.

Well, I personally perchase every release with the "Smooth Grooves" title on the cover label. I find that each one of these released outputs of music puts me in the fine mood of music listening that I like. When Im eating a Fruit Roll or kissing my mother on the cheeck after a long game of softball! The "Smooth Grooves" series of compilations get me where I need to be mentally musically, Dan, my friend. Here is a image of Number 2 in the series:

Wow. What an interesting question. However, when I first started getting into industrial music I had the same problem. Most big record stores have them. They seem to be more rare in used CD stores, which is a shame.

So you're kindof stuck between two extremes. On the one hand, you have BIG record stores like Virgin that caters to popular (read: boring) music but has many comp albums and samplers, and on the other, you have nifty indie new and used stores that don't have much room for a bunch of comps and samplers. HOWEVER - this is where the demonic forces of the internet come into play...

Try these: Amazon.com aquariusrecords.org flippedoutrecords.com forcedexposure.com CDNow.com

Oh, and look for the "Music In The Key Of Z" compilation and the book with the same name.

God, all the sudden I just completely lost my taste for this question. Compilations seem to be complete rubbish, every one, and I don't know what got into me to express any interest in them at all. Sorry.

That's the spirit! I used to think compilations were worthwhile too. But I have since realised that they are almost uniformally rub.
