"The Bare Necessities" is the only one of these I could still sing, despite not having seen the movie / heard the song for like 15 years. It might not be the best, but that's still worth something.

The bass voice that comes in at the end of That's What Friends Are For is nuts.

Although it should've been non-rhotic to match the character's accent. Not that that bothered me when I was 8.

oh man. how am i gonna vote in this poll? even the non-obvious choices are excellent. Has anyone ever sampled the overture for a hiphop track? if not i'm copyrighting that idea now.

I've just been tallying up how many times I have some of these songs... 2 Disney compilation cds, the remastered soundtrack cd with the bonus tracks from a few years back, an LP from when i was a little kid, and an LP box set of Disney songs. Also on cassette somewhere too.

Plus VHS and DVD.

It's a bug-bear of mine that all 3 of those cd versions of Bear Necessities are wrong: they don't have the Mowgli / Baloo dialogue parts that are so crucial to the song. Those bits mustn't have been part of the song multitrack tape otherwise why would they be missing? All the vinyl versions I've got are intact.

It appears that Brian Epstein and Walt Disney met in late August 1965 to discuss The Beatles appearing and/or supply some music for Disney’s next film, “The Jungle Book”. However, “The Beatles” cartoon series was set to premier on the ABC network in September and Lennon was especially bitter about the project. When Epstein mentioned the Disney project to him, John exploded. He was probably in no mood to hear of yet another “cartoon” project. Lennon screamed, “There’s no way The Beatles are gonna sing for Mickey fucking Mouse. You can tell Walt Disney to fuck off. Tell him to get Elvis off his fat arse, he’s into making crap fucking movies.”

apparently "that's what friends are for" was recorded first in full beatles style but then they decided at the last minute that would make the film seem dated so reverted it to barbershop quartet (the things I learn by watching the documentaries on disney DVDs)

Which explains why they're clearly modelled on the Beatles but then don't sing like them. Beatles dating more than barbership is kinda LOLworthy though.

Even though Pink Elephants will clearly walk that, there's so many great songs - Look Out For Mr Stork, that Casey Jones song, When I See An Elephant Fly... aaahhh, my dad used to play that album over and over when I was little.

Bear Necessities -> I love this track. Did it before OPhelia started obsessing over the JB, but now, after having been bombarded with it on a daily basis, I love it even more. So so so good.

We're letting O watch all the classics. Dumbo rules too!

also, I Wanna Be Like You just edges out Bear Necessities. Bare Necessities was written by one guy, who actually wrote a whole bunch of songs for the film, but they were deemed "too depressing" so Walt had some other guys rewrite everything.

Those original songs were rightly rejected. I love the idea of them being dark and depressing, but the reality is they're just dour and dull.
