I was big into them in the late '90s around the time of IX (on Relativity), X (a ten-inch EP on Emperor Norton), and XI (aka Elf:Gulfborewaltz, on V2)
now they're re-releasing the cassette-only I-VIII in a big ol' box sethttp://www.screwmusicforever.com/homeboxset/
They are still going, saw em at Cake Shop a couple years ago and it was fun. Have to admit I haven't kept up on everything they've done since (they're up to #16 or 17) but I still put on IX and XI sometimes. "My Friend Maurice" is a jam.

yeah, i forgot how i first heard about these guys, but i've got XIV and 13. "aguirre (shelter)" -> "burden" is one of my favorite opening 1-2 punches on a rock album

I think "13 (Netherregions)" was the first one I wasn't feeling as much (pretty quiet and mellow compared to some of their stuff) but overall they're pretty rad

wish I could find something on youtube, but again, impossible to search
they probably didn't do any videos I guess

home were always pretty cool, there was a minute there when i was really into the florida scene, really like the records by a band called Meringue.Brad from Home is a cool guy and all over the place, playing bass in Gang Gang Dance and White Magic on occasion, playing with Jah Division, tour managing Animal Collective (he's the Rev Green of the AC song and has a blog- http://revgreen.blogspot.com/)
― mizzell, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 18:18 (fifteen years ago)
^^^^ yeah was just about to post that, I think he's played w/ Oneida on occasion too. the Home boxset is coming out on Brah
― dmr, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 18:20 (fifteen years ago)
I have Meringue's "Music From the Mint Green Nest" but haven't played it in ages
but yeah anyone who was feeling the various recommendations on that '90s indie rock thread that was going a while back should check these guys out

I like Home! i actually saw them at a CMJ festival showcase in like 99. It was great. They have a show coming up with Times New Viking, Axemen, and Cave on Nov 18 at the Mercury Lounge. I would go if I didn't live in Missouri and have work and school obligations.
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 18:26 (fifteen years ago)
Huh, I feel like I had one of their albums in like 1997 but don't remember a thing about it. Wonder if I got rid of it.

ha! i'm about 90% sure I was at that show. It was upstairs somewhere. Coney Island High? Illyah Kuryahkin was on that bill too, some dude who had a record out that I liked a lot but was not good live at all (I think it was his first show ever)
I first heard Home when I was at KCOU through the recommendations of ex-KCOUers who were working at Relativity and V2 at the time ....
― dmr, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 18:40 (fifteen years ago)
It must have been a different year. I saw them on a bill with Snow Patrol (lool) and the show was interrupted by Hurricane Andrew or some shit. It's all pretty fuzzy.Another band I think of when I think of Home is Fly Ashtray.
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 18:43 (fifteen years ago)
haha yeah was def. not the Snow Patrol year. the one I saw was probably '98. I know it was after I graduated, I was in NY for a job interview or something
thx for the heads up on that Merc Lounge show, I'll definitely go to that

I was hoping this thread was about the early 70s UK band Home, who contributed Cliff Williams to AC/DC and Laurie Wisefield to Wishbone Ash. I liked their 73 album The Alchemist.

I've been trying to find Home's box set of their first 8 albums for oh about 7 years now.
it's too bad Gygax! is RIP he'd be so happy to finally get the Home boxset ;____;
― dmr, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 22:13 (fifteen years ago)
i have three of their albums which are nice enough but never really thrilled me tbh. 'so much love' was a pretty good & catchy tune

when he was living in SF about 10 years ago he played bass with Caroliner and Hanz Grusel's Krankenkabinet iirc.
