Faces will smile again, they have announced, with plans to reunite without Rod Stewart for a benefit gig. Ian McLagan, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones will perform at Royal Albert Hall on 25 October, with Wood's Rolling Stones bandmate Bill Wyman replacing the late Ronnie Lane on bass.
Although Stewart is reportedly "out of the country", the Faces singer will have not one but several stand-ins, including the Spice Girls' Mel C, Simply Red's Mick Hucknall, Level 42's Mark King and Mike Lindup, Paul Carrack, Lee Mead, Andy Fairweather Low, Kiki Dee, Chris Difford, Georgie Fame, Jan Akkerman, Albert Lee and Martin Taylor.
The Faces performance is part of the 75th anniversary celebration for PRS for Music's Members Benevolent Fund. This musicians' body awards grants and loans to performers, songwriters, composers and their dependents. "For [them] to invite us to play at their 75th anniversary show is a wonderful tribute that touches me deeply," McLagan said in a statement. "Thank you – and we will rock the Albert Hall to its foundations!"
