What music would you like to see dominate at some point during the 2010's?

I find this question more interesting than predictions and arguments for or against why it will or won't happen.

In a perfect world, what will blow up over the next 10 years? Regardless as to how feasible it is, or a "keep dreaming" type of mentality..

Jay Sean just had a US #1 so I expect more musicians of Asian backgrounds will be popular. If it can become more of a regular thing on 1xtra then it can quite easily make the step up I think.

In Britain at least. Not everyone is going to get a Lil Wayne guest verse.

but jay sean no longer sounds asian at all does he? still you never know, and i'm hoping you're right - certainly the number one should at least prove to various record execs that an asian face on the cover of the cd wont necessarily prevent people from buying the single so that's a start anyway

is this stuff big at all in the uk? is there like an army of asian teens repping for this stuff? i pegged it as a growing niche market that might just take cross over to mainstream if the stars happened to align properly but i've been waiting ages now for that to happen

Grindcore. It's the future!

Yeah that was what I was thinking, having a successful asian dude would warrant more at least trying to get out there. the sound might be comprimised a bit but considering they make up a large minority in this country it wouldn't hurt to see them better represented in our musical make-up.

I don't think 'big' is the word but it certainly is growing. Like I said, I think it is only a 1xtra show (and not an after-midnight slot) away from growing outside its niche market (asian kids and their friends, so mostly inner-city) and then a couple hit singles away from being treated like grime was in this decade.

ha ha, i'll tie the last 2 posts together by mentioning the malay dude doing sound at our last gig in singapore had a grindcore band that just got signed to an australian label and was getting ready to go on tour.

also, my bands based in bali and it's been suggested more than once that we keep doing exactly what we're doing now, except market it as "the new sound of surf music"

so: asian dance surf music! how could it fail to take over the world?

messiahwannabe, Sunday, 25 October 2009 09:45 (fifteen years ago)

* asian grindcore dance surf music actually

preferably with a guest verse from lil wayne

If "surf-music" comes back to sound like it does on The Roots of Chicha, I'm all for it.

In fact, I'd love to see a Chicha revival in the 10s.
