"my name is..." easily

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Monday, 26 October 2009 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

I wonder if that NSync song title ever worked as a pickup line for anyone in the history of the world who wasn't in NSync (or possibly the country artist who covered that song).

billstevejim, Monday, 26 October 2009 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

Orgy "Blue Monday"

I don't know what this is and yet I feel the urge to say 'ew'.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 26 October 2009 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

"Blue Monday" isn't that bad, but it sort of set the template for Marilyn Manson's "Personal Jesus" and "Tainted Love" which were not very good.

billstevejim, Monday, 26 October 2009 20:46 (fifteen years ago)

I thought this was going to be a Temporary Residence thread.

I thought I could make it work because you look a bit like a man (aldo), Monday, 26 October 2009 23:09 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know what this is

You lucky man.

it sort of set the template

Limp Bizkit and their cover of "Faith" might have something to say about that. (Also, Marilyn Manson's own cover of "Sweet Dreams," which came out well before Orgy's butchering.)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:11 (fifteen years ago)

Orgy's "Blue Monday" is the worst fuckin thing ever

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Monday, 26 October 2009 23:14 (fifteen years ago)

"My Name Is," though I have a lot of love for "Freak On A Leash." That Tasmanian Devil beatboxing!

da croupier, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:14 (fifteen years ago)

i remember janeane garofalo making fun of orgy's "blue monday" by marching in place to it while on the show with ben stiller to promote mad men

da croupier, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

lol MYSTERY men

da croupier, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

THE sound of 1999

da croupier, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:18 (fifteen years ago)

xpost -- I was about to say WAIT a minute.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:19 (fifteen years ago)

Ben Stiller as Don Draper, though.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:19 (fifteen years ago)

Pac. If only for getting a Huey P. Newton namedrop and "cops fuck up Black neighborhoods" rhetoric onto TRL (and over the heads of most of the kidz?)

auuuuuu!!!! sexy ledy, my favorite anomal! (Whitey on the Moon), Monday, 26 October 2009 23:26 (fifteen years ago)

the beginning of "Freak On A Leash" is fantastic; it's really too bad about the middle

btw have you all heard the Green Velvet remix of Orgy's "Stitches"? because it's awesome

the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Monday, 26 October 2009 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

Limp Bizkit and their cover of "Faith" might have something to say about that. (Also, Marilyn Manson's own cover of "Sweet Dreams," which came out well before Orgy's butchering.)

I had a feeling someone would say this, and I disagree, other than the fact that it's a nu-metal band covering an 80s song..

billstevejim, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

Britney's song is iconic. I kind of like the Nsync, but everything else on this list, including the overrated Eminem novelty, is forgettable.

jetfan, Monday, 26 October 2009 23:41 (fifteen years ago)

I'm still torn on my vote.

billstevejim, Thursday, 29 October 2009 05:52 (fifteen years ago)

this is an incredible poll

Nanobots: HOOSTEEND (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Thursday, 29 October 2009 06:08 (fifteen years ago)

2pac & the range

ice cr?m, Thursday, 29 October 2009 06:11 (fifteen years ago)

I'm gonna be the dude uncool enough to admit that I heard Orgy's cover of "Blue Monday" years before I heard the original (wasn't really fuckin w/Factory when I was 13) and I actually kinda like it a lot. It and "Freak" are the only ones I'll still turn up if they come on the radio.

I also feel a lil bit obligated to vote "Changes" cause it was the first Pac I ever heard and its a great fuckin song, but even then it just didn't hit me the way stuff on LAD did and to this day I still don't really hear Pac.

So

"freak on a leash"

Nanobots: HOOSTEEND (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Thursday, 29 October 2009 06:13 (fifteen years ago)

I liked the Orgy "Blue Monday" enough to hunt down the original on Napster in ninth grade and o.m.g. what a disappointment

A B C, Thursday, 29 October 2009 06:42 (fifteen years ago)

em > pac > korn > other shit

stetsaSYSTEM (The Reverend), Thursday, 29 October 2009 10:47 (fifteen years ago)

between nsync and 98o and monica there is some boring-ass balladry going on in that countdown

stetsaSYSTEM (The Reverend), Thursday, 29 October 2009 10:48 (fifteen years ago)

the fuck are those offspring and joey m songs?

stetsaSYSTEM (The Reverend), Thursday, 29 October 2009 10:50 (fifteen years ago)

the Offspring song was the follow-up to "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" and was pretty horrible and huge in its own right

itsybitsyspiderMk2 (some dude), Thursday, 29 October 2009 12:52 (fifteen years ago)

the joey mcintyre song kind of languished in the shadow of "give it to you" but i would probably know the lyrics front to back if i listened to it now

A B C, Thursday, 29 October 2009 16:28 (fifteen years ago)

Funny, I'm getting the same feeling but in reverse order at the moment. ;-)

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 29 October 2009 16:51 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Friday, 30 October 2009 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

"Why Don't You Get A Job" was the obvious "Obladi Oblada" rip off. .. instead "la la how the life goes on.." it's "now now why don't you get a job."

billstevejim, Friday, 30 October 2009 03:41 (fifteen years ago)

Holy shit, you reminded me that "Give it to You" is a beautiful monster.

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Friday, 30 October 2009 05:37 (fifteen years ago)

killah priest, Friday, 30 October 2009 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

A B C, Saturday, 31 October 2009 08:09 (fifteen years ago)

i love give it to you and always have even though when it came out i was into respectable music like powerman 5000 and also found it to be uncomfortably rapey

A B C, Saturday, 31 October 2009 08:10 (fifteen years ago)

I liked the Orgy "Blue Monday" enough to hunt down the original on Napster in ninth grade and o.m.g. what a disappointment

SB'd you for this

RAPTOBER (sic), Saturday, 31 October 2009 09:04 (fifteen years ago)

I hate this poll for reminding me that Orgy's version exists

囧 (dyao), Saturday, 31 October 2009 09:25 (fifteen years ago)

Holy shit.. I kinda love that Monster Magnet was the 1st video ever on a TRL countdown (at #10).

billstevejim, Monday, 2 November 2009 06:30 (fifteen years ago)

hahaha i remember watching the first episode with carson on a laptop in a little dark studio it felt like such a dope little "underground" show

Nanobots: HOOSTEEND (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 2 November 2009 13:43 (fifteen years ago)

lol ditto!

candice spergin (cankles), Monday, 2 November 2009 14:55 (fifteen years ago)

I thought that Monica song was so pretty back in '98.

cough syrup in coke cans (Eric H.), Monday, 2 November 2009 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

haha were you the other person that voted for it? :)

BIG HOOT aka the smalleydriver (some dude), Monday, 2 November 2009 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't get a chance to vote. :(

cough syrup in coke cans (Eric H.), Monday, 2 November 2009 15:03 (fifteen years ago)

Surprised Sugar Ray or Lo-Fidelity All-Stars were not in the countdown at the time. "My Name Is" is Eminem's best single and video ever. Killer track.

The Perfect Weapon 2, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 05:57 (fifteen years ago)

"Every Morning" was at #10 just a few days earlier..
