Mark, i am quite sure that if you did indeed leave MMM on the train, it'll STILL be there. heheh Unless I end up on that train.

Oh yes, I mislaid the last Beta Band record at my parents' home. It's somewhere in the million Northern Soul comps that my dad has now. hahaha

Going out in Luxembourg about ten years ago I must have dropped Mercury Rev's first album "Yerself Is Steam" after having had too many Chimay Bleues (a delicious dark killer beer with around 12% alcohol) in Club 5. In the meantime I rebought the album and was a little disappointed when relistening to it. In my memory it was much spacier.

Things I have left on trains - a SuperNintendo (in its box), a piece of original artwork by Jack Kirby, the 12" of 'Bizarre Love Triangle' by New Order, and a copy of the first Dredd Foole and the Din alb. This was all before I was a heavy toker, too!

I got the SNES and the artwork back from lost property - I've never been able to find another copy of the Dredd Foole rec, sadly...

I have lost not 1 but 2 copies of "Fall in a hole" the first (£22) as a 17 year old on a train coming back from Manchester after drinking 2 cans of lager and overdosing on adrenylin after seeing the Sugarcubes. The second I actually left in the shop where I purchased it (£18 I think) and when I returned the next day the guy in the shop refused point blank to admit I had left it even though it was back up on the wall In the same place it had been taken from when I bought it.

I finally managed to hang onto a copy about 4 years ago which I ended up paying £32 for.

I left a cassette copy of The Velvet Underground w/ Nico at a party. I forget what was on the other side, but I think it was something else good, maybe an X album.

I accidentally left a Mohammed Abdou (Saudi Arabian singer) bootleg in the back of someone's car when I was briefly involved with some political activism. I've been too embarrassed to ask for it back since I was such an unrealiable uncommitted activist, but it's probably irreplacable. (By now it has been most likely taped over with Noam Chomsky or something.)

I found a tape on a train about six months ago and listened to it... to my joy it was full of absolutely cracking tunes, none of which I have been able to identify to this day. With the exception of one... imagine my disappointment when I found out it was by Groove Armada.

Matt DC, Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Matt DC maybe you could re-evaluate Groove Armada based on the fact that you a) liked it and b) er...

Tracer Hand, Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(haha i read that as "taped over BY noam chomsky")

(noam chomsky what is on yr walkman?)

mark s, Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Noam needs a blank tape." "Oh, here, he can tape over this awful Arabic thing that deadbeat left in my car."

Mohammed Abdou serves the Saudi elite!

Never lost anything on a train ... but my original copy of Method Man's "Tical" was destroyed in a car accident on the M23 down to Brighton.

Somewhere in the International District is my lost copy of OK Computer that I rested on the roof of my car when I was loading some stuff into it- I just stuck it up there for a minute, then forgot about it & drove off. I've never lost any music on a train, though, because Amtrak can't be bothered to give us any useful train service out here.

The night the bar I used to work at in NYC was changing hands, the owner informed me that there was a box full of singles taken from the jukebox throughout the 80s and early 90s in the basement. I found all sorts of treasures down there, most of which I'd bought. All sorts of stuff-from Prince and Madonna to Young Marble Giants and DAF. I used to have to go to Bleecker Bob's to have holes punched into the UK 45s-what an ordeal. Anyway, I was thrilled. So thrilled I left them in a cab on the way home. Idiot!
