I think first and foremost of that remix of Sting's "Englishman in NY"
― Mark G, Thursday, 29 October 2009 13:24 (sixteen years ago)
Ha ha, was there a sample pack in the early 90s that just included those drum sounds?
They appeared on everything from Chapterhouse to Sophie B Hawkins.

Yeah, it was called "Led Zeppelin 4"
(I have no idea if that's the right one or not, still...)
― Mark G, Thursday, 29 October 2009 14:33 (sixteen years ago)
Is it actually a sample of When The Levee Breaks, or a recreated loop?
― The Paisley (shop) Window Pane (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 29 October 2009 14:37 (sixteen years ago)
Smaple of Zep.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 29 October 2009 14:44 (sixteen years ago)
Animal Collective "What would i want? sky". don't know what the sample is tho
― sonderangerbot, Thursday, 3 December 2009 17:48 (sixteen years ago)
Isn't that one sampling Grateful Dead?
― feisty, Spanish, girl (Moka), Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:33 (sixteen years ago)
it has a vocal sample from the dead, not sure if the drums are a sample.
― mizzell, Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:58 (sixteen years ago)
That Enigma song is ridic.

there is some other thread that discusses the predominance of this sample and its source (Chapterhouse thread? Siouxsie and the Banshees maybe?) - its not a direct sample from Zep, its a second-hand source iirc

if the lyrics weren't ridiculously stupid, i'd love that alanis song. is there anything that kind of sounds like that which is worth hearing?
― mascara and pies (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:30 (sixteen years ago)
xxxp that's the one yes. as i understand it, Chapterhouse is one part Zep (and this is the original Zep?) and one part Schoolly D, which is what Shakey is referring to
― sonderangerbot, Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:32 (sixteen years ago)
yeah its the two drum loops layed over each other - but its weird that Siouxsie did the exact same thing. For some reason I was under the impression that both Siouxsie and Chapterhouse (and maybe others?) were sampling some other kind of source that already had the Zep and Schooly D beats combined, y'know like some kinda DJ beat comp album or something. (Cuz otherwise obviously that's a pretty weird coincidence).

Every Chemical Bros. jam ever, obv, but my favorite example is the remix of "I Think I'm in Love" by Spiritualized, into which they splice what sounds like the drum intro from the Miami Vice theme. I'll see if I can find a clip..

The Billy Squier track was also sampled by Dizzee for "Fix Up, Look Sharp" of course
― Number None, Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:12 (sixteen years ago)
DJ Krush sampled it in 93 for his debut album.
