'young niggaz' use of the 'shes strange' sample is so dope ... 'so many tears' is one of shock g's best beats imo ... 'death around the corner' sums up the mood of the album. 'old school' is so much bittersweet melancholy for a back-in-the-days track.

i got nothin (deej), Friday, 30 October 2009 00:00 (sixteen years ago)

didnt realize 'death around the corner' was prod by johnny j RIP

i got nothin (deej), Friday, 30 October 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

This is an extraordinary album.

Me Against the World, which includes what's gotta be the best pep talk in rap.

ablaeser, Friday, 30 October 2009 00:49 (sixteen years ago)

so many tears but I'm a huge shock stan

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Friday, 30 October 2009 00:51 (sixteen years ago)

daaammn... I could vote for like half this album and be happy

stetsaSYSTEM (The Reverend), Friday, 30 October 2009 07:01 (sixteen years ago)

So Many Tears is the best 2Pac song ever, at least among the ones I've heard. Love that harmonica break.

Tuomas, Friday, 30 October 2009 10:15 (sixteen years ago)

Though Old School and Death Around the Corner are pretty close contenders.

Tuomas, Friday, 30 October 2009 10:16 (sixteen years ago)

one more for so many tears

its the wrms cats in control radio background music but with lame tupac keyboards and gospel singers!!

BIG HOOT aka the smalleydriver (some dude), Monday, 2 November 2009 14:33 (sixteen years ago)

I think I could be happy with any song on this album winning. Even "Heavy in the Game" would be like "haha that one won? cool!"

Anybody here have a reliable connection to someone who deals with Tupac's estate? I'm trying to help someone get some copyright clearances. (They have contacted the appropriate people but not having much success getting a response.) Email me if you have anything.

If I Die 2Nite for me.

Although Death Around the Corner right up on it, also really love the breeziness of It Aint Easy.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Sunday, 3 July 2011 04:50 (fourteen years ago)

yeah love "it aint easy". can't remember what famous screw tape it appears on but sounds so great slowed down

the 'i was raised in the city shitty ever since i was an itty bitty kiddy drinking liquor from my mama's titty' verse in "death around the corner" still gives me goosebumps

"old school" didn't get much love in this thread

corpse pose (missingNO), Sunday, 3 July 2011 05:18 (fourteen years ago)

i mean if anything that verse in "death around the corner" is the ultimate corny pac stan bait, 'tortured, unbounded ghetto poetry' -- but i'm a complete sucker for it every time anyways

corpse pose (missingNO), Sunday, 3 July 2011 05:27 (fourteen years ago)

pac would've turned 40 last month :(

Me as well

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Sunday, 3 July 2011 05:36 (fourteen years ago)

Old School is great, but so many good and bad rappers have done something like it since that its kind of taken the shine off it. When rap was having its divide in the late 90s/early 00s, seemed every single underground artist was dropping "hey look at me guyz, im down with the OG rappers, IM MORE AUTHENTIC" type of tracks.

For me though, MATW was one of my first rap purchases so that song was like a major history lesson.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Sunday, 3 July 2011 05:41 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i get what you mean. it just nails a kinda melancholy nostalgia perfectly. 'bittersweet' as deej puts it -- doubly so for me since this album is so tied to my own nostalgia

corpse pose (missingNO), Sunday, 3 July 2011 06:13 (fourteen years ago)

plus it flips that beautiful soul searchers sample

corpse pose (missingNO), Sunday, 3 July 2011 06:13 (fourteen years ago)

"this album is so tied to my own nostalgia"

Yah, same here. This was the first rap cd of mine that my parents found. From then on, my rap collection stayed at my friends house.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Sunday, 3 July 2011 06:23 (fourteen years ago)

i had this on c90 w/ onyx - bacdafucup on the other side. pretty much everyone in my school had a copy of that tape i think

corpse pose (missingNO), Sunday, 3 July 2011 06:51 (fourteen years ago)

Sweet, that's a bad-ass tape. Most people I know went through a *metal phase,* my equivalent was an *Onyx/MOP* phase.

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 3 September 2020 03:47 (five years ago)

what a great album. “So many years” vs “if I die tonight” vs “temptation” vs “dear mama” vs “lord knows”...
