POLL: best non-Missy album produced (mostly or entirely) by Timbaland

Message Bookmarked

i tried to keep it to any album he did at least 50% of the tracks on (with or without co-producers like DanjaHandz, etc.)...at first i was gonna include the first 4 Missy albums but it'll just be more interesting without them.

they were wein, so she drowned (some dude), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

I voted for the one I've heard all the way though.

Oh shit, I've heard two of these all the way through. Fortunately I voted for the right one

(oh PORRIDGE) (HI DERE), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:14 (sixteen years ago)

One in a million

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:16 (sixteen years ago)

My go-to Timbaland is the "History Of Timbaland Vol. 1-5" megamix some guy posted on the interwebs couple years ago, so this is gonna be hard for me...

Durian Durian (Jon Lewis), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:18 (sixteen years ago)

one in a million and the bachelor have the obvious classic 4eva cuts on them...not sure how consistent they are as albums. deliverance, remember when ilx when nuts over that! with good reason! the version of "nowhere" which segues into "cry me a river" is astounding. i think i might vote for afrodisiac, which i have a huge soft spot for - it's so underrated, both in terms in its quality (the textures, the backing vox, so gorgeous) and its ~importance~ in terms of timbaland's development as a producer - a lot of it foreshadows work for eg justin timberlake that he'd go on to get a lot more props for. (fs/ls is an ok album but def not in the running here.)

lex pretend, Friday, 30 October 2009 21:19 (sixteen years ago)

eg:

("focus" and "i tried" not on youtube, huh)

lex pretend, Friday, 30 October 2009 21:21 (sixteen years ago)

i never actually realised until now that timbaland had a hand in bittersweet world apart from "outta my head". huh again.

lex pretend, Friday, 30 October 2009 21:23 (sixteen years ago)

deliverance is one of my favs of the decade so that.

my gangsta ain't NEVER been on trial (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:24 (sixteen years ago)

Welcome To Our World is my weirdo pick, that album just jams from front to back, Deliverance a close 2nd but there a lot of these I still need to hear

they were wein, so she drowned (some dude), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:25 (sixteen years ago)

was the DEFinition any good? i never heard anything outside of the single

my gangsta ain't NEVER been on trial (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

he did 6 out of 11 tracks on Bittersweet World (xpost)

they were wein, so she drowned (some dude), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

can't imagine voting against aaliyah, but i find my voting finger lingering over... nelly furtado. of all things.

goole, Friday, 30 October 2009 21:27 (sixteen years ago)

(fs/ls is an ok album but def not in the running here.)

it's pretty impressive imo, esp as far as having a cohesive sound throughout

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

it's hardly the only one that has a cohesive sound throughout. as i was saying, afrodisiac...so many of the sounds on fs/ls, those lush sweeping strings especially, were found there first.

lex pretend, Friday, 30 October 2009 21:37 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i've never really heard that album, but the one you posted does have a v. similar sound

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

Deliverance followed by The Bachelor

We call them "meat hemorrhoids" (Alex in SF), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:47 (sixteen years ago)

FutureSex/LoveSounds. EASILY. Still my favorite album of the decade.

ben folds' cover of "such great heights" (Tape Store), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

Girl Interrupted is a pretty good record. Def. better than any of the Magoo records.

We call them "meat hemorrhoids" (Alex in SF), Friday, 30 October 2009 21:53 (sixteen years ago)

of course, the missing option is the never-released kiley dean album, which would almost certainly get my vote had it officially existed ;_;

lex pretend, Friday, 30 October 2009 21:55 (sixteen years ago)

Are any of the post-2003 records worth hearing in their entirety (aside from the Justin album, I know there are people who love that record.)

We call them "meat hemorrhoids" (Alex in SF), Friday, 30 October 2009 22:07 (sixteen years ago)

My top ones are:

100% Ginuwine (awesome front to back)
Deliverance
FS/LS
Welcome To Our World

Tim F, Friday, 30 October 2009 22:45 (sixteen years ago)

My top 5:

Timbaland and Magoo - Welcome To Our World (1997)*
Ms. Jade - Girl Interrupted (2002)
Bubba Sparxxx - Deliverance (2003)
Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006)
Ashlee Simpson - Bittersweet World (2008)

* - voting for this one.

xhuxk, Friday, 30 October 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

those old tim & magoo albums are tons of fun

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 October 2009 23:00 (sixteen years ago)

deliverance is one of my favs of the decade so that.

― my gangsta ain't NEVER been on trial (M@tt He1ges0n)

Deliverance followed by The Bachelor

― We call them "meat hemorrhoids" (Alex in SF)

These people speak the truth. Deliverance is magnificent.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 30 October 2009 23:08 (sixteen years ago)

i'm like the only one who even tried to defend Scream but it's still pretty funny in that list.

Aaliyah vs Bubba vs JT I think

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Saturday, 31 October 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

Deliverance, easy, although Brandy and Aaliyah are both close after. That Kiley Dean album is some next level stuff, esp. America. Never heard Ms. Jade or The DEFinition. HMm.

7borad dudes get sb'd, frequently. (Alex in Montreal), Saturday, 31 October 2009 02:18 (sixteen years ago)

JT by some distance

About half of Deliverance is brilliant, but the other half is kinda whatever. I guess the same goes for One in A Million.

Need to hear quite a few of these, especially the Timbaland & Magoo joints. Will happily live without ever hearing the last two.

Alex in SF: I fuck with the Furtado joint.

stetsaSYSTEM (The Reverend), Saturday, 31 October 2009 06:53 (sixteen years ago)

100% Ginuwine (awesome front to back)

very true! i missed it first time round. the claustrophobic midsection especially, "i know" through to "i'm crying out". "final warning" is incredible.

lex pretend, Saturday, 31 October 2009 12:34 (sixteen years ago)

Haha is that Ashlee album good? I remember the "Outta My Head" (or whatever) single really annoyed me.

Turangalila, Saturday, 31 October 2009 12:55 (sixteen years ago)

cool results, happy to see a decent showing for Welcome To Our World and something I actually like beating out the Danja-era stuff that I've never been too hot on

the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 03:06 (sixteen years ago)

not too hard to see why that kylie dean album didnt come out. theres something quite bland about them. she should have just licensed them out for use in the background of teen TV series.

'ur friends business' is so great

but i think my favorite is the one w/ the skit in the middle where the chick's mom is mad at her for hooking up w/ ginuwine ("i told you hes an ENTERTAINER hes NO GOOD!!!") and messing up there couch ("Theres a CUSHION MISSING, theres a SPRING BROKEN!") that cuts in w/ Flash by QUEEN when the beat gets brought back!!!

blap...tremendo (deej), Saturday, 24 July 2010 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

100% ginuwine pretty much towers above the rest of this list for me, although select moments of the aaliyah & bubba records are close

J0rdan S., Saturday, 24 July 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

at least i've heard the record!

J0rdan S., Saturday, 24 July 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

what does that have to do with you sleeping on timbaland's best record? is it somehow related to yr not knowing stevie wonder?

blap...tremendo (deej), Saturday, 24 July 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

it's hard to keep up with all the rocking chair-sampling albums, my man

J0rdan S., Saturday, 24 July 2010 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

yeah man 100% is crazy...so many classic singles

some dude, Saturday, 24 July 2010 22:22 (fifteen years ago)

I love the singles on 100% but never heard the whole thing.

There's some neat music on Deliverance but I find Bubba Sparxxx unbearably corny now.

da croupier, Saturday, 24 July 2010 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

100% Ginuwine would have been my pick as well, must have ended up not voting in this poll ultimately. Really feel like this and Da Real World in the same year caught Timbaland at the peak of his powers (though of course Ginuwine makes this what it is).

Tim F, Sunday, 25 July 2010 04:31 (fifteen years ago)

Volume 3 that year too!

some dude, Sunday, 25 July 2010 12:38 (fifteen years ago)

Ok I'm going to have to relisten to 100% Ginuwine - I bought that and The Bachelor in the Zavvi clearance sale (£2 for the pair!) - I thought The Bachelor was great but 100% didn't grab me at all beyond a handful of tracks. The Brandy album is definitely the best of these I've heard, I completely missed this poll though.
