samosa gibreel, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

ya it's between busta and lil wayne for me

samosa gibreel, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

yeah dude, i have no idea where busta pulled that verse from

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

accidentally beatin you like gorillas playin

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

i love how weezy's verse starts off so effortless, he's almost reluctant to even be rapping. and then by the end he's just rapping his tuckus off.

samosa gibreel, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 04:32 (fifteen years ago)

rae's flow and style fits the track's vibe best for me, but busta does pull some competent unexpected phrases. All 4 are spittin some knowledge though. busta>chef>tip>weezy. weezy's just about young money and crotches again and again. he needs to progress some.

The Perfect Weapon 2, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 06:15 (fifteen years ago)

I'll be listeneing to this one while I'm assassinating fools in Assassin's Creed 2.

The Perfect Weapon 2, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 06:24 (fifteen years ago)

wow! this is amazing.

my gangsta ain't NEVER been on trial (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

i knew youd dig this matt

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

weird that this is from this year, seems older. maybe i need to listen to it again but i was never really bowled over by it, figured it was just one of those tracks that people got excited about more for the combination of MCs than anything else (cf. "shine blockas," ha)

the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:36 (fifteen years ago)

"shine blockas" > this imo

k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:39 (fifteen years ago)

the fuck outta here

the MC list is dope but all turn in classic verses

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:47 (fifteen years ago)

i'm just glad that we kept up our policy of mentioning gucci mane on every single thread on ILM in 2009

my gangsta ain't NEVER been on trial (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:18 (fifteen years ago)

btw i honesty am finding it hard to choose a favorite

my gangsta ain't NEVER been on trial (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:18 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i might love shine blockas a bit more than this, but it's on like a fingernail's difference between two love elephants. i think i'm going to vote for weezy; apparently young money and crotches are still captivating to me.

samosa gibreel, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

well, better that than money and young crotches

my gangsta ain't NEVER been on trial (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:19 (fifteen years ago)

btw is this NEW?? cuz i swear it's like they beamed in Midnight Marauders-era q-tip and da drought 3-era wayne or something...crazy how on point everyone is...

my gangsta ain't NEVER been on trial (M@tt He1ges0n), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:38 (fifteen years ago)

it's not new new but it's been out for about 9 months

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:45 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 7 November 2009 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

I had to go all Weezy fanboy and vote for Lil Wayne on this one. I love Rae's verse, and don't quite understand the massive love for Busta Rhymes verse (is the fact that he's usually so bad enough to make this great?). I just think Lil Wayne sounds really at home on this kind of beat, love his voice (off the auto-tune for the first time in a while over the last couple years) going all over the place, his 'middle america/genital area' line, and the part where he pretends not to play the game and almost not say Renaissance. Until 'No Ceilings' (no love so far on ilx, maybe i'll start a thread) I thought this was one of the best verses he's done for quite a while, and I wish he'd rap over more of these kind of laid back beats, I think it really suits him.

scout, Saturday, 7 November 2009 15:15 (fifteen years ago)

yeah...this is a totally average latter day busta verse. still keep listening to this track and wondering what the bfd is.

lindsay goham (some dude), Saturday, 7 November 2009 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

stickin out my tongue like an iguana lizard at you corny niggas

samosa gibreel, Saturday, 7 November 2009 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

Wayne seems out of his league to me. Voted Busta. It's not just what he says, but how he says it. The production is annoying and week imo.

Buck Utah (rockapads), Saturday, 7 November 2009 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

wfb > rae > tip > busta

The production is annoying and week imo.

agreed

Bad gal, war child, bookworm, Sierra Leone activist cat (The Reverend), Saturday, 7 November 2009 20:26 (fifteen years ago)

love this part of rae's verse

Old Gold at the Golden Globes, my robe hitin the cement
Chef in the buildin, yep and he been

fear of a wack banning (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 November 2009 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

yep and he bent*

fucking lyrics sites

fear of a wack banning (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 November 2009 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

man ya'll are either crazy or not paying enough attention. all four verses are so loaded with great lines you'd think it would sound overwrought, but instead it comes off as seemingly effortless.

samosa gibreel, Saturday, 7 November 2009 21:16 (fifteen years ago)

otm

System, Sunday, 8 November 2009 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

can this be purchased anywhere?

Hobocamp, Sunday, 8 November 2009 00:19 (fifteen years ago)

physically? i doubt it

fear of a wack banning (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 8 November 2009 00:20 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know enough about rap to understand why that would be the case - are there a lot of clearly-better-than-huge-chunks-of-radio-hit singles that never get out past mixtapes and Twitter-leaks and stuff? And why?

Hobocamp, Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

(oh - how about digitally?)

Hobocamp, Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

i dont wanna get too "lol u old" or anything but why would you want to buy this digitally?

k3vin k., Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:03 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, I am old, son. I saw the Geto Boys when you were in short pants. I want it for my iPod songplaying box!

Hobocamp, Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:07 (fifteen years ago)

in the case of stuff like this, lots of people take a song from an album after it's out and do a posse cut remix that's strictly a promo/leak thing and has no real venue on a retail release (unless it's a popular album and the label wants a 'deluxe' edition or something). and at this point there's virtually no relationship between the quality of material and whether it's on an album or just a black market thing.

lindsay goham (some dude), Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:08 (fifteen years ago)

(and I have insane, elaborate, OCD-ish self-imposed bitrate standards)

(x-post; thanks some dude)

Hobocamp, Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:09 (fifteen years ago)

the thing that interests me is about tracks like this is that, like, Wayne insists he charged some huge fee (75k i think?) for every guest verse, no exceptions -- does that mean Universal or Q-Tip himself or someone actually came out of pocket for that to make this track that just went all over the internet and probably didn't bring in a dime of actual profit?

lindsay goham (some dude), Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

It's just hard for me to understand how exactly, say, Lil Wayne benefits from his best shit being stuff that only a select group of listeners ever hears.

(another x-post)

More stupid questions: Is this stuff emailed around, or are all these guys in a studio together? (forgive me if I'm being really naive)

Hobocamp, Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:12 (fifteen years ago)

he benefits because there's plenty of people to buy his shit regardless of quality - even if this is one of his better recent verses it's not like he's missing out on a $$ opportunity when he's still on every official mainstream rap & r&b remix.

no way in hell they were all in the studio together

k3vin k., Sunday, 8 November 2009 01:18 (fifteen years ago)

the results of this poll are in the exact same order as i would've ranked them. except q tip > raekwon rather than tied.

samosa gibreel, Monday, 9 November 2009 04:13 (fifteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Sunday, 4 March 2012 23:53 (thirteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Sunday, 4 March 2012 23:55 (thirteen years ago)
