some weirdo did a mashup that imagines that the beatles never broke up, to pretty cool results (basically mashing up beatles solo stuff)....neato.

So, not "Heathen Chemistry", "Everyday Chemistry" ...

It's an interesting idea, and no doubt Mojo will have a review next issue...

(Haven't heard it yet)

this is pretty awesome

yeah, looks fun!

I was kind of underwhelmed tbh, but hey.

DavidM, Monday, 9 November 2009 17:16 (fifteen years ago)

Listened to the first track, pretty lousy actually. The Grey Album was far better. I'd rather just have one of those 'Fake 70s Beatles Album' mixtapes.

Adam Bruneau, Monday, 9 November 2009 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, the idea is fun but the various parts don't mix well together, the vocals are too low in the mix and the "songs" just don't really work as such..
I've just heard it once, though.

Well, so far it's errrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmm entertaining...

But it's not a 'what they would have made' etcet.

Mark G, Monday, 9 November 2009 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

The answer to this is Harrison's 'Isn't it a Pity'

this is kinda a cool idea but in actuality it gave me a headache

Some of these tracks are really groovy in my opinion - I think a few go on too long without anything different happen, but there's some great ear candy in here even aside from the trainspotting fun. I do wish there'd been more extended interplay between the songs AS songs (as opposed to repeating lyrics over and over as pure sample material) - it's most fun when it really does try to suggest, however absurdly, that this could be the Beatles in the studio together answering each other's lyrics. Obviously it would never have sounded anything like this, but it would be a great alternate-reality Beatles experience, a bunch of hepped-up dudes enthusiastically bursting in on each other's songs rather than guarding their own like precious treasures.

Probably the best twist is pairing "What the Man Said" with "Isolation" as a way to infuse Macca's breezy tale of a soldier boy with the "tragic world" that the lyric acknowledges but gives no real attention.

It's all better on headphones though btw.

Still lean towards the "Twin Freaks" album where Freelance Hellraiser does this with only Paul McCartney solo tracks though.

The fact that some people ONLY listen to mashups makes me fear for the future.

This is pretty dire.

What about

There are tons of awful mashups--this one sounds pretty decent and is fun listening. I don't really care about other peoples' listening habits.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Thursday, 12 November 2009 06:35 (fifteen years ago)

There was one set that wasn't too bad, it had "Lady Madona" with the Beasties over it, can't remember where it came from, just found the CDr of it yesterday.

Still, "Love" be the best one, followed by the "Slack album".

and also "enough already"

Mark G, Thursday, 12 November 2009 07:53 (fifteen years ago)

oh hang on, "Slack" had no Beatles, but Pavement innit?

OK, "Grey" in 2nd.

Mark G, Thursday, 12 November 2009 07:53 (fifteen years ago)

Anyone rate CCC's Beatles mashup albums: Revolved and Cracked Pepper?

I think he manages the odd good track - coincidentally the last track of both albums: 'A Sky Blue Rhapsody' (A Day in the Life, Mr Blue Sky, Rhapsody in Blue), and 'You Only Live Tomorrow' (Tomorrow Never Knows and You Only Live Twice).

Bob Six, Thursday, 12 November 2009 08:44 (fifteen years ago)

His 'And Your Bird Was Right' (And Your Bird Can sing and Badly Drawn Boy's You Were Right) isn't bad either.

Bob Six, Thursday, 12 November 2009 08:48 (fifteen years ago)

Liked "Revolved", didn't know about "Cracked Pepper"

OK, I'll make an exception for CCC, there's some ingenuity in there...

Mark G, Thursday, 12 November 2009 09:12 (fifteen years ago)

I think Go Home Productions is probably the best at this stuff. That mix of Real Slim Shady & Silly Love Songs is spectacular.

Darin, Thursday, 12 November 2009 19:33 (fifteen years ago)

Oh yeah, the "dub be good to me" one..

STOP DOING THIS!!!

Oh, where is that Cracked Pepper mix?
