I don't really have a 23 best songs of the decade list. I do like all these tracks quite a bit, though.

this is my kind of list. I love Jliat!

[Removed illegal link] *is* tempting, but it's a toss-up between Xome and Latitude: North 41° 53' 0" - Longitude: West 70° 45" 46'. I've got Paul McCartney's 'Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey' on right now, so I guess I've got to go with Latitude: North 41° 53' 0" - Longitude: West 70° 45" 46'.

That's a great user name there, too.

this Mr Natural is awesomely mulchy, visceral stuff - if the rest of this list measures up i am in for some good listening

the juddering triumph of camembert (acoleuthic), Monday, 16 November 2009 18:40 (sixteen years ago)

i wouldn't call that sound collage by mr. natural a song though. not even an instrumental. i can live without a tune but the rustling and the other little noises just don't go anywhere i want to go. walking on dead leaves in the woods right now in autumn makes much more interesting sounds. is all the stuff like that?

alex in mainhattan, Monday, 16 November 2009 18:51 (sixteen years ago)

Mr. Natural uses an instrument made out of a tree branch w/two prongs that he's rigged up with violin/guitar strings and pickups (run through heavy processing obv). I saw him play live and the first 5 minutes were just him scraping the instrument on the floor (he's a shlumpy looking dude so he looked like a janitor lol) and it was like nails on a chalkboard x1000 - I had to turn away and pretend he was doing something else just to make it less viscerally painful, but on the other hand I give him kudos for upping the game for obnoxiousness at a noise music festival. Eventually he started doing other things like banging it on the ground for a percussive sound and playing the open strings with a bow. Seeing it live especially makes you feel like you are one of the molecules being violently shaken in that tree branch.

sackful of hollow (Curt1s Stephens), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

thanks a lot curt1s but are all 23 tracks sound collages or not?

alex in mainhattan, Monday, 16 November 2009 19:36 (sixteen years ago)

this embarker is cool! guess what it reminds me of? correct. hamburger laaaaaady

although it has now gone horrendous-noise on us, which is cool. not content to be merely unsettling, it wants to be the horror too!

the juddering triumph of camembert (acoleuthic), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:55 (sixteen years ago)

fwiw i <3 people who fuck w/ noise-making twiddly devices, be they made of wood or no

the juddering triumph of camembert (acoleuthic), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:56 (sixteen years ago)

ok crutis you were in some dark place when you compiled this list right

not that 'kassettmusik' is bad. it is unbearably affecting. compellingly repugnant.

the juddering triumph of camembert (acoleuthic), Monday, 16 November 2009 20:05 (sixteen years ago)

mr natural is pretty cool, saw him a couple years ago opening for costes

like a lot of noise, his stuff works better in a live setting

super nice guy too, talked to him for a while at the show and it turned out we had lived right around the corner from each other back when I was in nashville

鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 16 November 2009 20:14 (sixteen years ago)

thanks a lot curt1s but are all 23 tracks sound collages or not?

kind of? depends on your definition of sound collage. like I said this isn't my real best songs of the decade list or anything. I just mostly wanted to see what people had to say about these tracks, and I do like listening to all these tracks.

sackful of hollow (Curt1s Stephens), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 14:30 (sixteen years ago)

like I said this isn't my real best songs of the decade list or anything.

i read the thread title and believed in it. what a fool i am! but anyways i am going to check the others. it is kind of a challenge now.

alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

okay i tried embarker, sewer selection and then kevin shields 'cos i thought it is... but no, it was just another noise producer from portland. i am sorry but i won't participate in this poll. i can't decide which "song" is the best. they are different but after having listened to some i only know that i never ever want to listen to them again in my life.

alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 19:37 (sixteen years ago)
