there was an nme news story about this. they're on the cover of some mag in the States without their masks, at least some of them are. really tho, whats the big fucking deal? Daft Punk had the idea first anyway

actually GWAR did the Slipknot thing back in the early 90s....but they did it with a lot more humour, recognising their own ridiculousness and celebrating it whilst singing about pestilence, nuclear war and other jolly subjects. GWAR over Slipknot i say...

didn't black sabbath have a masked up period..i remember one of their albums with retro-aviator style clothes and masks...am i right..i think so...daft punk have always pulled material and inspiration from classic seventies rock and i'm sure they ripped this off..and on and on

"what do the members of slipknot actually look like?"

Not to sound needlessly dismissive, but who cares? It's bad enough that they make music!

for the same reason i find mexican wrestlers and executioners fascinating - i wonder if they look really pleasant, sad, happy, underneath the outer exterior they portray

The dark secret of slipknot -- They look JUST LIKE THEIR MASKS!

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 10 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, I do think the label managers saw the (relative) success of Gwar and experienced a bright moment thinking: "hey, if we do the same, without the sperm/gore and the tongue-in-cheek attitude, we can market it to that oh so lucrative 13-16 yr demographic and we'll make millions". And so they handed out jumpsuits & masks to a bunch of hicks, gave them the 1st Machine Head CD to listen to, and the rest is history.

No. The Dark Secret of Slipknot is that they are all 35-year old Record Company Executives who lost a bet.

The one with the clown mask is actually Richard Branson.

I saw them all the time around the punk rock club in Des Moines when I was a young teenager. They're just regular metalhead- looking guys. Bad haircuts and crappy tattoos. They were always a joke amongst the scenester types in Des Moines, I was very shocked to see -they- of all local groups get big. Also, one of the members recently bought a house 2 doors down from one of my friends.. there goes the neighborhood :(

Branson is only 35 when he's on the pull.

On a recent episode of an australian TV show - John Saffran's Music jamboree - 9 average lads blagged their way into a very snooty nightclub by posing as Slipknot and turning up wearing copies of their maks and outfits. They smuggled a camera in as well and filmed rich patrons kissing their arses. Pricless televison

This, again why GWAR is cooler. They wouldn't *sneak* in...they'd paratroop in, smashing the skylight and violently slaughtering the sycophants. Another day, another conquest.
